Forgotten Thrifted Tablescape

Welcome to the Blog, Friends. I’m delighted you stopped by to visit. Today I’m sharing a table setting with you that I haven’t done before. As I go through the house making an inventory of silver, china and crystal I’m running across things that I had forgotten I owned. Does that ever happen to you?
Often when I put together a table setting I mix and match my dishes. It makes for an interesting and one-of-a- kind look. But sometimes it’s nice to go with a matching set of china especially, if you haven’t used it before. So that’s what I did today.

A few years ago, I stumbled upon a beautiful set of “Harcourt” by Noritake china. This set has everything: eight full five-piece place settings and even a couple of serving pieces. The design is so charming with its blue and white outer border, all neatly rimmed with a lovely gold band. There’s also a simpler gold edge on the inner part of the plates that adds a touch of elegance.
What makes this find even more special is that the whole set cost me less than $20! The dinner plates look fantastic on a thrifted white porcelain charger that I use all the time. It’s a real joy to set the table with these pieces.
You can also see the “Flair” silver-plate flatware that I’ve had for some time but haven’t used in a long time. It’s quite a sleek, modern-looking pattern. I have a large set of this flatware, which was also thrifted and probably cost around $10. It even includes all the serving pieces. Setting the table with these finds brings a special kind of satisfaction.

The water glass is a newer thrifted find, “Heritage Clear” by Fostoria. I love the weight of these glasses and how they sparkle when the light hits the cut facets.

The wine glass is another thrifted find, “Old Dublin” by Mikasa. It is such a pleasure to go through the different crystal patterns and select something appropriate for the table. Mix and match crystal is a good way to enhance your table and create interest.

A thrifted cut glass pitcher holds a selection of roses in colors from pink to deep red. Roses are an elegant flower and are lovely on their own or paired with other blooms.

The flowers look beautiful in the center of the table surrounded by crystal and china. I added the cup and saucer to the table so you could see them. Normally, coffee would be served with dessert. The bread and butter plates look so sweet against the deep blue tablecloth.

I wanted something soft and old that brought back the feeling of another era. These very soft napkins edged in a wide band of lace were perfect. They are held in a simple metal napkin ring. that draws out the gold in the plates.

Above is an aerial view of the table. The deep blue tablecloth allows the softer blues to shine and the flowers to add their deep, rich color to the center of the table. This table is elegant but not fussy and I love how it came together. Hope you do too.
Thanks so much for joining me here today. It’s always a treat to have you stop by and spend some time. Thrifting is a great hobby and one that is even better shared.

Oh, that china is gorgeous! As is the whole table, but I’m stuck on the china. I’m so glad it found its way to you!
Thanks, Joy, I guess taking inventory isn’t such a bad thing to do. LOL Have a wonderful week.

Beautiful find. You set so many stunning tables with thrifted items. I keep my inventory the old fashioned way by listing everything in a notebook. Everything is listed by the date bought, manufacturer/ pattern name, what I paid for it, and the date each time I use it. Every once in awhile I go thru my notebook to check what hasn’t been used in a long time and then try to use those items in a tablescape.
Sounds like a great system, Jan. I wish I had done that when I first started thrifting. Now I’m playing catch-up but better that than nothing. LOL Have a great week.

The china is gorgeusly classic. The design on the rim is beautiful in its repetition and I love the addition of the inner band, which is both simpler and harmonious. The silverplate flatware is stunning. The tablecloth is a bold modern look, sweetened by the beautiful roses. Just lovely!
Thanks, Sandra, I appreciate the kind words. I feel like our styles are similar. I know I always love your tablescapes. Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely week.

Well, I can relate only as I unpack & find dishes or crystal that make me smile at the ‘old friend’ because they haven’t seen the light of day for 4 years! I did have a couple of ‘aha’ moments. A lovely table.
Thanks, Robin. Unpacking stored boxes is like getting a series of presents. “Old Friends” and beautiful memories are everywhere. Have a lovely week.

That is a beautiful table setting! While I don’t have enough dishes to forget about any that does happen to me with clothes or other items. It’s like finding an old friend I had forgotten about!
It is exactly like that, Joanne. I keep a running inventory in my head but occasionally something doesn’t get logged in. LOL Makes for a nice surprise. Have a lovely week and thanks for stopping by.
