Leaning Towards Fall in the Entranceway

Welcome to the blog today, Friends, it’s wonderful that you’re here. Even though it’s still summer my thoughts have been moving towards Fall. It’s the plight of a Blogger. We’re always planning a few months ahead. This new entranceway vignette is a look towards Fall while still embracing elements of the summer months.

A plaid table runner grounds the vignette in colors of brown and white with stripes of red and yellow adding a bit more color. A wooden platform crafted by my talented Husband elevates the elements added to the credenza. Behind the platform a cross stitch image of lilies in soft greens and pinks depicts some summer flowers that are blooming now into Fall. The watercolor on the mirror is a summer scene of boats by a river in the same soft tones.

When I’m thrifting I’m always on the lookout for carved wooden birds. I found the one above a few years ago. The sinuous curve of the neck, the worn and chipped paint and the sense of age surrounding this piece is very appealing. He fits well in a casual or a more formal setting. He has “presence”. The wooden bird cozies up to a beautifully embroidered linen piece that I found earlier in the summer.

As Fall nears we’re beginning to harvest vegetables from the garden. Anything gathered beyond the immediate use by our families can be preserved. A mortar and pestle was used to grind spices or salt used in the preservation of foods. Often things would be stored in jugs and pottery canisters to preserve the food for use during the winter months. The preservation process begins in summer and continues through the Fall. The colors of these reminders of the past are muted, worn and beautiful.

The farmhouse feel of this display is reminiscent of the past with all the pleasure of enjoying these pieces now.

The antique mirror reflects the images and the room across the hall.

A scattering of lemon verbena is a reminder of summer that fills the space with a wonderful lemony fragrance. Seasons follow one another sometime gently easing from one to the next sometimes with more abrupt endings and beginnings. Today we’re transitioning gently between the two seasons.

After visiting an estate sale this past weekend I ran across some pretty end of summer picks. I added them to the vignette in the stone crock. You can see that in the picture above. The colors really compliment the colors in the watercolor hung on the mirror.

Here’s the view from the other side. I think the stems are very realistic and add a touch of color without being too heavy. The branches allow al lot of light to stream through and highlight the vignette. You can always add something new or take away something away when you’re working with a display. It’s all about what you like.

Thanks so much for joining me. I’m already looking forward to our next visit here on the Blog.
