Welcome to the Blog today. I’m so happy you’re here. This is such an interesting time of year as we near Thanksgiving with the holiday season right behind. Sometimes it’s hard to know what kind of table to set. Are we still showing full Fall colors and settings or are we inching toward the after Thanksgiving season. Today I’m sharing a transitional tablescape to move from Fall to Winter and all with thrifted items. So let’s begin.
I started this setting with a beautiful, recently thrifted, Waterford tablecloth. It’s in a heavy damask with an overall floral pattern. The color is just a little hard to define with some warm undertones and some frosty features. A good choice for a transitional tablescape.
I chose these beautiful English bird salad/dessert plates to tie in with the season. We have lots of birds feeding outside our windows and even an evergreen like the one pictured on the plate. The blue berries are just beginning to fill out on the branches. They shelter a lot of our backyard birds.
A set of 12 plates featuring different birds found it’s way into my cart a few years ago in a Goodwill, I think. The birds are beautifully drawn and Meakin is a quality producer of fine china. The birds are replicas from Audubon’s Folio.
The bird plates rest on beautiful Lenox dinner plates edged in gold on the outer and inner rims with a lovely blue and rose floral border. This was a Goodwill item from a couple of months ago. These plates are quite elegant and in pristine condition. They sit on a wooden charger in an off white that I thrifted several years ago. I love using chargers that are wooden, glass or porcelain so I buy them when I see them in a Thrift Store or Estate sale.
I chose two different crystal glasses with a similar look. The water glass on the left is “Durand” by Cristal d’arques and the wine glass on the right is “Stephanie” by Mikasa. Both sets of glasses were thrifted at a local thrift Store. I love that the bowls are similar and the stems have a similar look but are quite different. Mix and Match always adds interest if you can keep some of the elements the same so they co-ordinate.
The flatware set is two-toned with gold and silver. They are simple but add a nice sparkle to the table. These were thrifted a few years ago.
To help with that transitional feel I added a wooden bowl (thrifted) of greens from the garden and used a few grocery roses to embellish the arrangement. Magnolia and evergreen branches provide the greens. You can even see a few of the blue berries, if you look closely.
Here’s a look at the whole table. You can see that the napkins and napkin rings are kept neutral. I wanted to keep the look a bit on the wintry side with some warmer colors in the plate stack. The napkins and napkin rings were thrifted a while ago.
Thrifting is a challenge that has lots of rewards. When I’m in a shop I try to keep what I already have in mind and choose pieces that will blend with what’s at home. Sometimes I just find something I love and bring it home anyway. There’s always something that goes with a new item that can add a unique look to your home decor..
I am always amazed at how you know the names and makers of your stemware. This is such a lovely table, and I love the wintry touches!

Thanks, Marsha, I really try to get the correct pattern and maker through research. It’s more enjoyable to use something when you know what it is. the time between now and December is tough for decorating but we all do our best. LOL thanks for sharing.

That luxurious tablecloth caught my eye immediately. The floral design is a great basis for your table and that overhead shot is wonderful. It shows off beautifully all your different birds plates and greenery. Great transition table.

The white/taupe tablecloth is perfect & it is a lovely setting. I have similar bird plates with the embossed border. Since I intend to eat from every plate I thrift I steer clear of crazed dishes (& sometimes it hurts, lol).
Those bird plates are dear to my heart, Robin. Like you I really like to use the pieces I’ve thrifted. In my more fanciful moments I like to think the plates enjoy an outing to the table, too. LOL. Have a great week.

What a lovely table. I love birds–my collection is small ceramic ones! The plain linens accentuate the dishes so nicely! You thrift such lovely treasures. I bet your heart swells with pride when you look at such a pretty table!
