Estate Sale Crafting Treasures: My Thrilling Finds

Assorted crafting supplies including ink pads, stamps, decorative papers, and embellishments arranged on a table.

Welcome to the Blog today, Friends!

I have a wonderful estate sale adventure to share with you today—one of those treasure-hunting experiences that reminds me why I love thrifting so much.

You may already be familiar with EstateSales.net, a website that lists estate sales in your area. I check it regularly to see what treasures might be waiting to be discovered. Sometimes I head to a sale on opening day if I think the best items will disappear quickly. Other times, I wait until the final day when everything is often marked down to half price. It’s always a bit of a gamble, but that’s part of the fun!

This particular sale was appointment-only on the first day, so I quickly reserved a time slot. I was delighted to secure an appointment, although mine wasn’t until later in the afternoon. Still, I was excited because the photos advertised an incredible collection of craft supplies, and that was exactly what had caught my attention.

As many of you know, I enjoy making handmade cards, so I was hoping to find card stock, rubber stamps, ink pads, embellishments, and other papercrafting goodies. Estate sale photos can be both exciting and frustrating because while they showcase the merchandise, they rarely include prices. I had no idea whether the items would be reasonably priced or far beyond my budget.

Even so, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to look. The photos showed shelves filled with crafting supplies, and I found myself imagining all the creative possibilities. Would there be hidden treasures waiting for me? Would the best items already be gone by the time my appointment arrived? I wasn’t sure, but I was eager to find out.

Friends, I am so glad I went!

In the picture above you can see the paper pads I purchased, and I could hardly believe my good fortune. Most of the pads contained double-sided papers, which was an unexpected bonus. If you’ve ever purchased specialty scrapbook paper, you know how quickly the cost can add up, especially when both sides are beautifully coordinated and usable. A few sheets had been removed here and there, but the vast majority of the pads were completely intact. It felt as though I was discovering a craft store tucked away inside an estate sale! The colors, patterns, and themes offered endless possibilities for future card-making projects. As I flipped through each pad, I was already imagining Christmas cards, birthday greetings, seasonal tags, and all sorts of creative projects taking shape from these wonderful papers.

One of my favorite discoveries was this collection of oversized stamp sheets. These large-format stamps are highly sought after by crafters and paper artists, and similar sheets often sell for $30 or more on Etsy. Imagine my delight when I saw the price tag—just $2 each!

Needless to say, they went straight into my box along with the paper pads. The designs are wonderful and will be perfect for creating handmade cards, gift tags, journals, and mixed-media projects. Finding quality crafting supplies at a fraction of their retail value is one of the reasons I enjoy estate sales so much. There is always the possibility of uncovering a hidden treasure, and on this day, it certainly felt like I had struck crafting gold.

Another area where I struck gold was the ink pads. My collection of ink pads is actually quite small, so finding such a large assortment was a real treat. Most of the pads were brand new and still unopened, which is always a wonderful bonus when purchasing craft supplies secondhand. They were all full-sized pads from a variety of manufacturers and came in a beautiful range of colors, from soft neutrals to rich, vibrant shades. The price was almost unbelievable—just 25 cents each! As I gathered more and more of them into my box, the estate sale staff offered me an even better deal on the entire group. At that point, there was no way I was leaving them behind. Ink pads are one of those crafting essentials that can quickly become expensive when purchased new, so adding such a large assortment to my craft room for pennies on the dollar felt like a tremendous bargain. I was already imagining all the possibilities. With so many colors to choose from, these ink pads will be perfect for stamping backgrounds, distressing paper edges, adding color to handmade cards, and creating layered designs. Finds like these are exactly why I love estate sales. You never know when you’ll stumble upon supplies that would cost a small fortune at retail prices but can be brought home for just a few dollars.

The sweetened deal included the ink pads and…

Three bottles of Distress Ink in different colors and a bottle of cleaner on a table.

…the inks and the ink cleaner all for $5. The inks were unopened and one bottle sells for $8 on Amazon.

As if the paper, stamps, and ink pads weren’t enough, I also discovered a collection of miscellaneous crafting treasures tucked among the supplies. There were several individual stamps, bits of ephemera, decorative embellishments, and even a useful crafting tool that I knew would come in handy for future projects.

The best part? The entire assortment cost just $2. Estate sales often reward those willing to take the time to look through boxes and baskets carefully, and this little collection was a perfect example. The ephemera included interesting pieces that can add character and charm to handmade cards, journals, and scrapbook pages, while the embellishments will provide those special finishing touches that make a project unique.

By this point, my box was filling up nicely, and I was becoming more excited with every new discovery. It felt as though each shelf held another surprise, and every item seemed to offer new creative possibilities. For a card maker and paper crafter, it was the kind of shopping trip that leaves you smiling all the way home.

My final discoveries of the day were these wonderful radiograph pens and a beautiful X-Acto knife set housed in a wooden presentation box. The entire group cost just $5.25. When I researched them later, I discovered that the pens sell for just under $100, while the X-Acto set is worth about $35. Needless to say, I was thrilled with these finds.

By the time I headed home, I had accumulated a fantastic collection of crafting supplies for a very small investment. I now have plenty of stamp pads in a variety of colors, stacks of beautiful paper, additional stamps, stickers, embellishments, specialty pens, and precision cutting tools. Best of all, these items were either brand new or in excellent condition.

Sales like this remind me why I enjoy estate sale treasure hunting so much. Sometimes the very best adventures are the unexpected ones—the sales you decide to visit simply because you hope there might be a treasure waiting for you. On this particular day, there were treasures around every corner, and I left with enough crafting inspiration to keep me busy for quite a while.

Thank you so much for joining me on this fun crafting adventure. I hope it inspires you to stop by an estate sale or thrift store the next time you see one advertised. You never know what wonderful treasures may be waiting for you!

Happy Thrifting!
