Thrift Store Treasures for Your Perfect Summer Table

Welcome to the blog today, Friends!
I’m so delighted you’ve stopped by to spend a little time with me. Today we’re setting a table that’s as easygoing as a lazy summer afternoon and proof once again that beautiful tables don’t have to come with a designer price tag. Nearly everything you’ll see was discovered while happily wandering the aisles of thrift stores—my favorite kind of treasure hunt!
This china was one of the very first sets I found after moving to the South, and I fell in love with its relaxed country charm the moment I spotted it. It reminds me of front porches, wildflowers in mason jars, family suppers, and conversations that linger long after dessert has disappeared. Sometimes the best thrifted finds are the ones that quietly become old friends.
So, pour yourself a cup of tea, coffee, or perhaps a tall glass of sweet iced tea if you’re feeling Southern today. Pull up a chair, get comfortable, and let’s put together this simple summer tablescape. I think you’ll discover that with a little imagination—and maybe a few happy thrift store adventures—you can create a table that’s full of charm without emptying your wallet. And if you happen to come home with one more plate than you planned…well, don’t worry, you’re in very good company!

Don’t you just love the graceful vine pattern that winds its way around the rim of each plate? Delicate green vines dotted with tiny red blossoms give this pattern such a sweet, cottage garden feel. I was thrilled to discover six complete place settings, each including a dinner plate, salad plate, and bread-and-butter plate. Finding a complete set at a thrift store is always a happy surprise! I don’t often use matching china from top to bottom. I usually enjoy mixing patterns and creating an eclectic look, but every now and then a pattern comes along that simply deserves to stand on its own. This one is so charming, so unpretentious, and wonderfully old-fashioned that I couldn’t imagine pairing it with anything else. Every time I set this table, I’m reminded of my great-aunt’s farmhouse kitchen. These dishes would have fit perfectly among the hearty lunches and suppers that appeared on her table each day. During the summer, we’d wander out to the kitchen garden with baskets in hand, picking peas, green beans, sweet corn, tomatoes, and whatever else was ripe for the taking. Before long, those fresh vegetables would be simmering on the stove, filling the house with the most wonderful aromas. An hour later, we’d all be gathered around the table, enjoying a meal made almost entirely from the garden. It wasn’t fancy, but it was filled with love, laughter, and the simple abundance that makes those memories so precious. Perhaps that’s why I treasure this little china pattern so much. It isn’t just the delicate vines or the tiny red flowers that make it special—it’s the memories it quietly brings back every time I set the table.

This set of dishes is by Susie Cooper and manufactured in England.

One of my favorite things about this table is all the wonderful texture created by the natural materials. Three different woven mats work together to give the setting warmth and a relaxed, country feel. Each place setting begins with an oval placemat that cradles a pretty grass charger in soft shades of green, perfectly picking up the green vines that dance around the china. In the center of the table, the floral arrangement rests on a scalloped woven mat that echoes the natural theme while adding another layer of interest. The combination of these three different weaves creates beautiful texture and soft, neutral tones that allow the china to remain the star of the show.
You may also recognize the flatware. It’s my favorite fiddlehead stainless pattern and has been my faithful everyday companion for many years. Isn’t it funny how certain pieces become old friends? This set has graced countless family meals, holiday dinners, and casual lunches, and it still looks right at home no matter what china I pair it with. Good flatware is a bit like a favorite pair of blue jeans—it goes with everything, never goes out of style, and somehow always manages to make the whole outfit look just a little better!

The napkins bring just the right splash of color to this easy summer table. Made of soft cotton, they’re scattered with cheerful flowers in rich reds and fresh greens that beautifully echo the tiny blossoms and leafy vines decorating the china. It’s amazing how repeating a few colors around the table can make everything feel so harmonious.
To keep things simple and relaxed, I slipped each napkin through a wooden napkin ring painted in a soft green that perfectly complements the charger and the china. I just love the way the deep red of the napkins plays against the delicate red flowers circling the plates. It’s a classic country combination that feels warm, welcoming, and just right for a leisurely summer meal shared with family and friends.

Keeping with the coordinated look of this tablescape, I chose matching crystal for both the water and wine glasses. These beautiful pieces were one of my favorite thrift store finds from just a couple of months ago. I happened upon them during a wonderful sale at Goodwill, and when I saw both the quality and the price, I knew they were coming home with me. Isn’t it exciting when you discover something special for just a few dollars? Those are the finds that keep us happily wandering the thrift store aisles! The crystal is by Hoya in the lovely “Sunrise Dahlia” pattern. I was immediately drawn to its graceful simplicity. The delicate cut catches the light beautifully without overwhelming the table, adding just the right amount of sparkle to this relaxed country setting. Their understated elegance pairs so naturally with the simple floral china, proving once again that sometimes the most beautiful tables are created with pieces that quietly complement one another rather than compete for attention.

A bouquet of multi-colored flowers rests in a white teapot…another bit of country charm. They add additional color and punch to the table.

Here’s an overhead look at the finished table, where you can really appreciate how all the pieces came together. I love the cheerful pops of red and green woven throughout the setting and the wonderful layers of texture created by the natural materials. It’s proof that you don’t need elaborate decorations to create a table that’s warm, welcoming, and full of personality.
Every one of the woven mats was thrifted over the past couple of years, and I think they’ve found the perfect home in this summer tablescape. Collecting these pieces one at a time has allowed me to mix textures and shapes in a way that feels relaxed and effortless. That’s one of the joys of thrifting—you don’t have to find everything in a single shopping trip. The best tables often come together little by little, one treasure at a time, and I think that’s part of what makes them so special.

From this view, you can see the table looking out toward the garden, where nature becomes part of the tablescape. The lush greens and colorful blooms beyond the windows seem to flow effortlessly into the room, creating the perfect backdrop for this relaxed summer setting. It’s the kind of table that invites you to slow down, pull up a chair, and linger over a leisurely meal with family and friends while enjoying the beauty of the season.
Thank you so much for spending a little part of your day with me. I hope this tablescape has inspired you to look at thrift stores with fresh eyes and perhaps gather a few treasures of your own. With a little creativity and a mix of well-loved pieces, it’s easy to create a casual table that’s full of warmth, texture, and summer charm.
Until next time, happy thrifting, happy decorating, and may your table always be a place where wonderful memories are made. I’m so glad you stopped by today!

This is a beautiful combo – love the napkins, too.
Lovely table Lynne. Love the china pattern and the story weaved into it is wonderful. Thrifting for table top pieces is the best and you would never know it by looking at your gorgeous table. XO- MaryJo
