Who doesn’t love pizza? There is certainly a place in our dinner schedules for an occasional frozen pizza or one ordered from the local pizza place. How much more delicious is it to make your own pizza and be able to do it in just a few minutes. Welcome to the Blog today, Friends, for some Flatbread Pizza Dining.
The table is set to put guests in a “picnic” frame of mind. I began with a navy and white checked table cloth. Rectangular placemats in primary colors of red, yellow, green and blue were turned vertically and placed on the table. Individual cutting boards, turned vertically, were added to the placemats. The vertical placemats lead the eye to the center of the table and the Basil plant that is used for the centerpiece.
Park Lane water goblets and simple beer glasses are set at each place.
Fiddlehead flatware sits on top of a simple folded napkin in striped blue and white. the napkin colors are picked up by the board and the tablecloth.
Here’s a closer look. This simple setting takes just moments to place on the table and it looks quite happy and inviting.
I started with an appetizer of phyllo pastry and a mixture of creamed spinach , garlic, nutmeg, salt and pepper. It was baked in a 400 degree oven for about 15 – 20 minutes, until nicely browned. Then I simply sliced it and served it on a board with plates, napkins and forks.
The flatbread pizza was really easy to make and we enjoyed putting it together. The flatbread comes in a package of two so I prepared two packages or four individual flatbread pizzas. I preheated a pizza stone in the oven at 425 degrees. The stone is rectangular so I was able to fit two flatbread pieces on the stone.
Instead of a red base I used some basil pesto as the base for the pizza. Next came shredded mozzarella cheese. Then toppings of red pepper and mushrooms were added. You can add any of the usual toppings for pizza according to your own preferences. The pizza went into the oven for about 15 minutes. Check it after 10 minutes. It’s done when the cheese is nicely melted.
Each flatbread pizza makes four pieces. I was able to serve four with two pizzas while the remaining two pizzas were baking in the oven.
Garnish each serving with a little fresh cut basil from the centerpiece and you are ready to eat. Add a salad and you have a tasty meal. You could have some other herb pots on the table. Guests really enjoy adding the fresh herbs to their pizza.
A simple, tasty and fun dinner in a picnic setting indoors.
