A LittleBit More…

Welcome to the Blog today. I’m so happy you are here to share in this thrifted table setting that is a little bit more than one would expect for your home decor budget. I was sitting having coffee this morning and I realized that I was drinking from a thrifted cup that rested on a thrifted placemat with flowers in a thrifted vase in the center of the table. Not only that but the table was thrifted and the rug on which the table sits was from an estate sale as were the draperies hanging in the room. The photos on the wall were ones taken by my Husband and I in Italy but they were in thrifted frames. What does that say about my decor, style and budget?

As the day progressed I knew I had to get busy and put a table setting together. Could that be accomplished with a little bit of elegance using thrifted pieces? I’d love for you to come along with me and see what happened.

The centerpiece set the tone for the table with its gorgeous pinks and greens. This combination is very appealing and works from spring through the summer months. The flowers are nestled in a pretty green pitcher with grapes and flowers on the outside as well as a criss-cross pattern. The texture of the pitcher works well with the flowers.

Pink and green chargers by Baroque sit on woven mats that add some texture to the table while keeping the setting on the casual side. They work with the flowers adding another layer of pink and green and were thrifted a few years ago.

Thrifted dinnerware that I haven’t shown before was chosen for this setting. A dinner plate by Lenox and a salad/dessert plate by Noritake add some additional pink tones to the setting. The Noritake pattern is “Barrymore” and I picked this up at a local thrift store last year. It was a service for 8 and quite inexpensive. I really like the wide gold trim on the outside of the rim that is picked up by the narrow gold trim on the inner rim. The Lenox plate is from the American Home Collection and is dishwasher safe which is a nice benefit.

You can see that this pattern also has two borders and the inner border is also in gold. This pattern really caught my eye and was very inexpensive. I think it was from Goodwill last year.

Here are the two plates with the green charger as the background. The charger goes really well with the flower vase and the pinks stand out nicely.

Crystal is such a delight to use and elevates the look of any table setting. I always check the glass aisle at the thrift store and will often find pieces of really good crystal for a dollar or less. When it sits on a table with pretty china it sparkles in the light. The water glass on the left is “Marquis” by Mikasa. I found 8 of them which was a nice bonus. The wine glass is “King Edward” pattern by Gorham and at an estate sale I picked up an entire set of red wine, white wine and water goblets. They add a touch of elegance to the table.

The flatware, “Jubilee” by Rogers, I’ve had for awhile and was one of my first silver-plated flatware thrift store purchases. The beautifully etched flowers make this a stand-out. When I purchased this service for eight a few years ago flatware sets were pretty easy to find in the thrift store. Today, I don’t see them too often and the prices have really gone up but occasionally, with a little luck, you can still find a treasure.

These pretty pink checked napkins were originally made for Hobby Lobby and found their way to a thrift store where I scooped them up and brought them home to use. Linens are a bargain and you can find some great pieces when thrifting.

Looking at the completed table setting, put together from such beautiful pieces, answers the question about why I thrift for home decor. You can create a lovely home filled with charming and useful items and stay within a modest budget shopping at thrift stores and estate sales. You can enjoy “a little bit more…” for a lot less when you thrift.

Thanks so much for visiting today. I’m so glad you came. I hope your next thrifting adventure is a good one.
