A Morning at the Farmer’s Market

Welcome, I’m so happy you”re here to join me for a morning at the Farmer’s Market. What says Summer more than shopping for fresh fruit and produce at the local Farmer’s Market. Here in Greenville Saturday morning draws a huge crowd shopping for what local farmers and purveyors of fresh produce bring to town. Several blocks are cordoned off each week and booths are set up to showcase all that growers bring to town. The market begins about 8:00 a.m. and lasts until noon or shortly after. There’s music and demonstrations and a good time is had by all.

Above you can see strawberries ripe from the field showcased in bright white baskets. They are so sweet and delicious tasting even better than they look.

Another stall showcases cabbages, Kale and root vegetables. Don’t you just love the vibrant colors provided by the vegetables. All this lovely food brings to mind so many recipes, I want to buy some of everything.

Fresh eggs are on hand in so many colors dependent on the kind of chicken that lays the egg. I can’t wait to bake something with these wonderful eggs.

Each week the entertainment is a local musical group generally with a country sound. these musicians were very good and really got your toes tapping.

Another grower sells fresh bouquets of beautiful flowers. I have a big garden so I generally don’t purchase bouquets but they are certainly lovely.

Tomatoes, peppers and squash are starting to come in. We had such an early start to the season. These vegetables will be even better in a few weeks.

South Carolina is noted for its peaches and the early crops are already in. We’ve already had some and they are so sweet and tasty. Freestone peaches will be coming in early July. They are my favorites but these early ones are great.

Another favorite is the local honey. Honey really does look like liquid gold. It is such a rich, deep color made by bees that help pollinate all our crops and flowers. Delicious on the scones available at one of the bakery stalls.

There are several fresh pasta makers who sell their homemade goods each week. So many different types of pasta and homemade sauces as well.

The smell of fresh lavender wafts on the breeze from the lavender growers. They also sell other products made with fresh lavender.

There’s even a small greens grower. The colors are vibrant and the taste fills your mouth with crisp deliciousness.

Plants are sold as well. This is a lily plant from one of my favorite stalls…the Herb Grower. She has some really interesting herbs and they are so healthy.

As you can see, the turnout for the market is excellent. You have to get there early to get the best selection.

The quality of the offerings is excellent, the growers friendly and the customers are smiling and happy as they go from stall to stall buying and enjoying the day and…when they return home they will have wonderful produce to enjoy until the next Farmer’s Market.

Thanks so much for joining me today for this look at the Farer’s Market. I hope you have a chance to visit one where you live. It is a fun and productive way to spend a morning.
