It’s been such a long summer with very high temperatures that make us all longing for the cooler days of autumn. Today I’ll be joining a group of creative bloggers with lots of ideas for making your homes ready for the Fall season.

Welcoming Fall: Three Easy Vignettes from Around the Home

I’ve been in the middle of a major renovation for the past three months, and I’m still in the process of putting the house back together. So, rather than attempting a large-scale decorating project, I thought I’d share something much simpler with you today.

For this blog hop, I’m going to show you three easy vignettes that bring a touch of Fall into three different areas of your home. The best part? I shopped my own home for everything I used and put each vignette together in a very short amount of time. Most of the pieces are thrifted treasures I’ve collected over the years, so these seasonal updates cost very little—just a little time and a bit of creativity.

You certainly don’t need to redecorate an entire room to welcome a new season. Sometimes a few flowers from the garden, a favorite collected piece, and a little rearranging are all it takes. So, let’s get started!

A Fall Vignette in the Living Room

In the photo above, you can see our formal living room. For the coffee table vignette, I started with a long, thrifted bread board as the foundation. I love using boards, trays, and other flat pieces as a base for a vignette because they help gather several smaller objects together and make the arrangement feel intentional rather than scattered.

The bread board sits on a pretty crocheted piece that I found several years ago. When I first brought it home, it was quite yellowed and discolored, but I knew it had potential. A little bleach, a good soak, and some time drying in the sunshine worked wonders, and I was able to bring it back to life. It’s now one of those useful little pieces that I enjoy pulling out whenever I’m putting together a seasonal display.

And that’s one of the things I love about shopping my home. Pieces don’t have to be purchased specifically for Fall—or even used for the same purpose every time. Look around your own rooms and think about what might work in a new setting. A bread board can become the foundation for a centerpiece, a vintage textile can become a layer underneath a display, and flowers from the garden can provide all the seasonal color you need.

With a few simple changes, we’re ready to welcome Fall without spending much money or adding another shopping trip to an already busy season!

I gathered a few pieces together that naturally fit into a warm Fall color scheme. The rich wood tones of both the coffee table and the bread board provide a wonderful natural foundation for the vignette. I added an old leather box that I’ve had for some time. The leather top features a scene from Dante’s Inferno, depicting Dante’s meeting with Beatrice, the love of his life. The richness and decorative detail of the leather box complement the warmth of the wood beautifully, adding another layer of texture and history to the arrangement.

At one end of the bread board, I placed two little houses. The first is a charming copper house that I found last year, and the second was created by a talented potter friend of mine. I love the whimsical quality of this little house. Its metallic roof picks up the copper tones of the neighboring house, while its warm rust-colored body blends beautifully with the rich reds and earthy colors throughout the vignette. These little houses add a playful touch and remind me that seasonal decorating doesn’t have to be formal or overly serious.

At the other end of the coffee table, I placed a rich red pitcher, another wonderful thrifted find. It is filled with a generous bouquet of flowers, most of which came straight from my garden. Hydrangeas, eucalyptus, and lemon verbena are joined by a few stems of alstroemeria from the supermarket. Together, they create a beautiful arrangement of late-summer and early-Fall blooms.

I love this time of year when the garden is still giving us flowers, but we can begin incorporating those deeper, warmer colors that hint at the season ahead. The combination of flowers, wood, leather, copper, and pottery gives this simple vignette plenty of texture and interest while keeping the feeling relaxed and natural.

Here’s another view of the coffee table, this time from the perspective of sitting on the sofa. From this angle, you can really see how the colors of the vignette work with the rest of the room. The rich red leather of the library chairs adds another layer of warmth and reinforces the beautiful Fall color palette while also picking up the red tones in the carpet.

The sofa and chairs are sprinkled with cheerful yellow and orange pillows, adding bright pops of color that help bridge the gap between late summer and early autumn. I love using pillows this way because they make such an easy seasonal change. There’s no need to completely redecorate a room when a few well-chosen accessories can shift the feeling of the space.

This view also gives you a glimpse of the next area where I’ve created another small vignette to help the entranceway make its own transition into autumn. It’s amazing how just a few carefully chosen pieces can carry a seasonal color story from one area of the home into another.

So, let’s take a look at our next Fall vignette!

This vignette is grounded by a beautiful embroidered gold damask runner, layered over another piece with a deep, rich wood tone. The combination creates a warm foundation and brings together the golden and earthy colors that signal the beginning of Fall.

At the center of the vignette is a lovely piece of pottery with a wonderful two-tone glaze. The lower portion of the container has a deep brown finish, while the upper portion has a lighter, more subtle glaze. I love the way the different tones and textures of the pottery complement the wood and embroidered runner beneath it.

The pottery holds another arrangement of seasonal flowers, most of which came from the garden. This time, I’ve added a beautiful yellow lily from the garden, which brings a cheerful touch of sunshine to the deeper Fall-inspired colors. The mix of flowers reminds us that even as we begin transitioning into Fall, the garden is still offering plenty of beauty to enjoy.

Using flowers from the garden is one of the easiest and most economical ways to bring a seasonal feeling indoors. You don’t need a large or elaborate arrangement—a few favorite blooms gathered together in a pretty container can make a wonderful statement.

A brown-glazed porcelain pumpkin sits on one side of the hunt board in our entranceway, bringing a simple and unmistakable touch of Fall to the space. I flanked it with a pair of brass candlesticks holding handmade golden tapers. The warm brass and golden candlelight complement the rich brown of the pumpkin beautifully.

Once again, all of these pieces were thrifted finds, collected at different times and from different places. I love the way they come together to create a cohesive seasonal vignette. This is one of the joys of decorating with thrifted pieces—you don’t have to find everything as a set. Instead, you can gather things you love over time and combine them in new ways as the seasons change.

At the opposite end of the hunt board, the lovely glass greenhouse holds yet another seasonal plant. This one is especially pretty, with cheerful orange flowers surrounded by large, lush green leaves. The orange blooms bring a wonderful pop of Fall color to the vignette while the greenery keeps the arrangement feeling fresh and connected to the garden.

Above the hunt board, you’ll notice a beautiful watercolor mounted on the mirror. It depicts a European city dressed in all the rich colors of autumn, making it a particularly fitting piece for this seasonal display. The warm reds, golds, and earthy tones in the painting echo the colors throughout the vignette and help tie everything together.

The mirror itself has a special story. My husband brought it home from one of his European trips, so it is one of those pieces in our home that carries both beauty and a memory. I love incorporating things we’ve collected on our travels alongside our thrifted treasures and garden finds. It makes decorating feel personal and gives each vignette a little story of its own.

Together, the watercolor, the glass greenhouse, and the other Fall touches create a warm and welcoming entrance that gently announces that a new season has arrived.

In this view you can see the living room looking to the entranceway vignette. Under the hunt board is a wooden model of a New Orleans trolley car . The deep yellow, reds and greens of the trolley fit the colors of this next season.

This last vignette is very simple, but I think it leads us beautifully into that cozy, relaxed feeling that comes with autumn. The days will gradually grow shorter, the evenings longer, and there will soon be a little chill in the air. Before long, we’ll be lighting a fire, settling into comfortable chairs, and enjoying a good bottle of wine together in front of the glow of the flames. What could be better?

The handmade wooden table provides the perfect foundation for this little arrangement. Once again, it’s a piece made by my talented husband, and I love the warmth and character that the wood brings to the vignette. Sitting on top is a lovely wooden tray by Dansk, another thrifted treasure. The tray holds a bottle of wine and two beautiful glasses, all ready for a relaxed evening by the fire.

The glasses are Waterford and, you guessed it, they were thrifted as well! Their delicate gold rims add just a touch of elegance and coordinate beautifully with the pottery vase beside them. The vase is decorated with scattered golden leaves, making it a perfect companion for this early autumn display.

Inside the vase is another simple bouquet of garden flowers. The fresh blooms are a gentle reminder that we’re not quite ready to say goodbye to summer, but the warmer, deeper tones are beginning to welcome autumn. I love this in-between time of year when summer and Fall seem to overlap, giving us the best of both seasons.

With a few thrifted treasures, some flowers from the garden, and a bottle of wine waiting to be enjoyed, this little vignette captures exactly how I want to welcome autumn: simply, comfortably, and with a little bit of beauty all around us.

The rich reds and greens in the carpet are beautifully echoed in the blooms of the bouquet, helping to tie the entire setting together. I love how the colors seem to flow naturally from one element to another, creating a warm and harmonious autumn palette without feeling overly decorated.

Beyond the table, two comfortable chairs invite you to sit down, relax, and stay awhile. Surrounded by the warm colors of autumn, this little corner feels like the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine, curl up with a good book, or simply take a few quiet moments to enjoy the changing season.

It’s a simple reminder that seasonal decorating isn’t just about how a room looks—it’s also about creating spaces that make you want to linger and enjoy your home.

As we get closer to autumn, we’ll be adding more seasonal touches throughout the house. For now, the use of flowers, rich warm tones, and touches of warm metallics helps connect the different spaces and gently begin the transition from summer into Fall.

These quick and easy changes can be both simple and effective. You don’t need to completely redecorate your home to welcome a new season. Look around at what you already have. Natural materials such as wood, pottery, woven pieces, and botanicals are often already part of our homes and provide a wonderful collection of items to draw from when creating a seasonal vignette.

I especially love this approach because it allows us to decorate without spending much money. Shopping your own home can be just as much fun as shopping in a store, and sometimes you’ll rediscover a favorite piece that you haven’t used in quite some time. Add a few flowers from the garden, rearrange a few treasured objects, and suddenly a familiar space feels fresh and ready for a new season.
