Create a Welcoming Summer Vignette for Your Entrance

Welcome to the blog today, Friends. I’m so happy you’ve taken a few moments out of your day to visit.

Today, I finally changed the decor in our front entranceway from spring to summer. I’m just a little late with this one…LOL! I decided to keep things simple and fresh, using soft earth tones and adding little hints of summertime and the pleasures of the season. There are touches that remind me of long, sunny days, time spent outdoors, and the easy, relaxed feeling that summer brings.

The front entrance is the first thing family and friends see when they step inside our home, so I always enjoy creating a welcoming vignette that reflects the changing seasons. Sometimes it only takes a few carefully chosen pieces to capture the spirit of summer and make a space feel warm and inviting.

So, fix yourself a cup of tea, pour a glass of lemonade, or enjoy your favorite summertime beverage, and join me as we explore the summer entranceway together.

The first piece I chose for this summer vignette was a lovely little mini greenhouse that I found a few weeks ago while thrifting. I was immediately drawn to its glass panels and charming Victorian style. It reminded me of the beautiful greenhouses I had admired on our trips to England, tucked among some of the most gorgeous gardens imaginable.

I wanted to keep the display simple and let the greenhouse itself take center stage, so I placed a crystal vase inside and filled it with freshly cut gardenias from the garden. Their creamy white blooms and sweet fragrance add such a lovely touch, and I adore the different shades of green that this little display encompasses. It feels fresh, natural, and perfectly suited to summer.

The greenhouse sits atop a beautiful green table runner stitched with leaves and flowers that wander across the fabric in a random pattern. The soft greens and delicate design create the perfect backdrop, adding just a hint of summer garden charm to the vignette.

Something was needed to tie all the colors together and create a cohesive look for the vignette. I chose this lovely little picture depicting a quiet garden surrounded by old stone buildings. The soft earth tones and muted colors immediately caught my eye, and there is such a peaceful feeling to the scene.
It reminds me of a hidden garden tucked away in the English countryside, where time seems to slow down and everything feels calm and serene. The gentle greens, warm stone colors, and touches of soft blue blend beautifully with the rest of the display.
I mounted the picture on the mirror to draw the eye upward and to help bring all of the disparate colors together into one harmonious whole. Sometimes a single piece of artwork is all it takes to unite a vignette and give it a finished, collected look.w your eye upward and bring all the disparate colors together.

The warm earth tones of a lovely live-edge tray with iron handles, paired with a hand-thrown pottery pitcher and matching glasses, add wonderful texture and shape to this summer vignette. Together, they evoke the promise of long, leisurely afternoons spent in the garden, enjoying a cold drink while seeking a bit of relief from the summer heat.

This pottery set is especially dear to my heart because it belonged to my mother. I always smile when I bring these pieces out to use, as they carry with them so many happy memories. Isn’t it wonderful how certain treasures can transport us back in time and remind us of the people we love?

For me, these simple pieces are much more than pottery. They tell a story of family gatherings, warm conversations, and cherished moments shared over refreshments on a summer’s day. Including them in this vignette makes the display feel even more personal and meaningful.

I added a pair of bright brass candlesticks topped with soft cream candles to bring a little extra light and warmth to the vignette. The gleam of the brass complements the earthy tones of the pottery and live-edge tray beautifully, while the suggestion of a summer garden created by the little greenhouse brings the entire display to life. Together, these elements capture the gentle, easy feeling of the season.

Starting with a single piece and building outward is one of my favorite ways to create a vignette. In this case, the little greenhouse set the tone, inspiring a color palette that celebrates summer and the beauty of nature. The artisan touches found in the hand-thrown pottery, the rustic tray, and the vintage brass candlesticks all reflect a simpler time and evoke memories of easy summer days meant to be savored.

Thank you so much for joining me today as I shared this summer entranceway vignette with you. I hope it inspires you to gather a few treasured pieces and create a seasonal display of your own.

Wishing you long, lazy days filled with sunshine, blooming gardens, and all the simple pleasures that make summer so special.
