Summertime Living Is … Easy

Welcome to the Blog today, Friends!
I’m so happy you stopped by. Summer is in full swing, and with it comes that lovely, laid-back feeling where everything slows just a little. There’s something magical about this season—the warm sunshine, gentle breezes, and the chance to take meals outdoors and really savor the moment.
Today, I’m setting lunch on the screened porch, and it’s all about easy summer style—bright colors, cheerful florals, and, of course, some fabulous thrifted summer dinnerware that feels just right for the season. I hope you’ll pour yourself a tall glass of something cold—maybe sweet tea or lemonade—and settle in for a little summer inspiration.

I’m also thrilled to be joining 17 wonderfully creative ladies as we share our summer tablescapes with you. There are so many beautiful ideas to explore—perfect for bringing a little extra sunshine to your own home. A big thank-you to Rita of Panoply for organizing this fun and inspiring blog hop. She keeps us all on track with such grace and kindness. Thank you, Rita!
Now it’s time to get busy putting this summer tablescape together.

The inspiration for today’s tablescape started with a delightful thrift-store find—these cheerful melamine plates you see above. Each one features a charming vintage truck, loaded to the brim with summer’s bounty—blossoming flowers, garden vegetables, and bushels of color just waiting to be enjoyed. No two trucks are the same, and the playful designs come alive in shades of green, red, blue, and sunshine yellow.
To give them a little lift, I’ve placed them atop classic Mikasa plates with a softly scalloped edge—just enough detail to feel elegant without taking away from the fun of the trucks. Beneath that, a bright red rattan charger adds texture and a dash of summery boldness, all tucked into a vibrant, multi-colored presentation plate that echoes the happy palette of the whole setting. It’s a joyful mix that feels just right for a relaxed summer lunch on the porch.

The centerpiece rests on a lovely floral tablecloth, its soft red background setting a warm and welcoming tone for the table. Sprinkled across the fabric are garden blooms in every hue pulled straight from the truck plates—yellows, greens, soft blues, and rich reds. It’s as if we’ve gathered armfuls of flowers from a summer garden and scattered them right across the table. There’s a wonderful sense of abundance and ease, perfect for an outdoor meal on a breezy afternoon.
At the heart of it all sits a bold red truck—our whimsical centerpiece. It’s cheerful and nostalgic, and tucked inside its bed is a simple glass jar brimming with fresh coleus. The leafy mix of green, white, red, and pink is so vivid and full of texture that I didn’t even need to add flowers. Sometimes, nature does all the work for us. The coleus practically glows in the light, echoing the colors around the table and giving the whole setting a lively, summery charm.

Here you can see some of the beautiful reds and rich, chocolatey browns that dance across the coleus leaves. They’re full of texture and life, bringing depth and a casual elegance to the arrangement. Right now, the coleus is in bloom, and those tiny lavender flowers are just beginning to peek out above the foliage. It’s a sweet surprise—those dainty blossoms rising like little wildflowers, softening the boldness of the leaves and making the arrangement feel even more special.
I love how the mix of color and leaf shape adds a relaxed, homegrown feel to the table. There’s no need for fancy blooms when nature gives you something this vibrant and full of character. It’s a little celebration of summer’s quiet beauty, right in the center of the table.

To keep the mood relaxed and easygoing, I added Fiddle Head stainless flatware—its simple lines and subtle detail are just enough to be interesting without feeling too formal. It’s the kind of flatware that fits right in at a summer table, whether you’re serving sandwiches or something a little fancier.Tucked at the corner of each plate is a lovely napkin from Pottery Barn—another lucky thrifted find. The pattern is cheerful and bright, with touches of golden yellow that echo the sunny tones in both the truck plates and the tablecloth. It’s always a little thrill when everything comes together, especially when thrifted pieces help tell the story.

A simple, colonial style green goblet is the last element of the table setting. The green color is quite soft and adds to that relaxed feel. It will hold either iced tea, lemonade or water.

I’ll be serving chicken salad wraps along with a fresh salad and fresh fruit…a perfect menu for a summer day.

Just beyond the table, you can catch a glimpse of the garden in full bloom—bright blossoms nodding in the summer breeze, as if they’ve joined us for lunch. A peek at one of the chairs reveals cheerful cushions dressed in playful summer colors, adding comfort and a dash of charm to the setting.
In a way, the garden becomes another guest at the table, sharing its beauty and quiet joy with us. The soft rustle of leaves, the hum of bees, and the vibrant colors beyond the screen make this summer meal feel even more special—like nature has pulled up a chair to join the conversation.

Here you can see the overhead view of this bright and colorful summer table—what a joyful mix of color, texture, and garden inspiration! It’s been such a pleasure sharing it with you today. I truly loved pulling together all these vibrant pieces—each one adding a little more energy and happiness to the setting. That’s the magic of summer, isn’t it? Light-hearted, full of color, and meant to be shared.
I hope you’ll take a moment to visit the talented bloggers linked below. They’ve created some absolutely beautiful tablescapes, and I know you’ll find ideas to inspire your own summer gatherings.

Lunch looks delish! This is a cute them and the centerpiece ties it all together nicely. I am anxious for my coleus to grow as it was just planted this past week! It always works well in a centerpiece! Your garden in the background looks like a fun place to sit and watch everything grow! Enjoy!
Thanks, Patti, it all came about when I found the truck plates at a thrift store. Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely week.
Lynne
Your table is really giving me that farmstand vibe, and I love it! Those plates are adorable and I love your red truck. I also like that you used coleus as a centerpiece. It looks beautiful with your tablecloth and anyone who can grow coleus always impresses me because I can’t manage to do it. I love it, everyone I know can grow it, but not me. Really pretty here.
Thanks so much, Pattie. I don’t often do “farm” table settings but these were just too cute to pass up and it worked well on the porch. We grow coleus in pots in the shade every year. The colors add a lot to a shady part of the yard. A gardener friend told me years ago that to grow any plant all you have to do is find the right spot and keep it watered. Have a wonderful week.
Lynne
What a cute theme, Lynne! Chicken wraps sound delicious and I love the red truck accents. Happy summer, Cecilia @ My Thrift Store Addiction
Thanks, Cecelia, always a pleasure to have you visit. Have a wonderful week.

Lynne, I adore the theme you chose for your table! Those plates are adorable. The floral tablecloth is so pretty, and I love its color palette. Your red truck centerpiece is beautiful! I may do something like that for Father’s Day. Thanks for the idea! I hope you have a wonderful summer!
Thanks so much. It’s a theme that can be used in many ways. Always a pleasure to hop with you. Have a wonderful summer.
Lynne
Lynne you are such a great thrifter! I love the napkins, and especially the truck plates you found – they’re just darling! Love your tablecloth too. And the truck centerpiece – you’ve done a fabulous job bringing all those colors together around your theme! So perfectly, adorably, summer! I’m always so happy to share a hop with you! Hope your summer continues to be relaxed and lovely!
Thanks, Barbara, I really enjoy the summer hop. It always seems easier to work out a theme this time of year. Enjoyed seeing your garden and all your gorgeous flowers. Have a lovely summer.

Lynne, such an inspiring springboard, finding the truck-filled melamine plates full of garden bliss! I was equally attracted to the view outside of the garden as I was the table inside! The coleus in bloom already speaks to the timing of your garden being at least a zone or two ahead of mine. You’re right – they’re all you need to have made the table centerpiece, in bringing together all the colors used on the table. These colors could easily carry from summer into early fall, all versatile choices. I am always inspired and frankly amazed at the variety and quality (and full sets!) of elements you find at the thrift stores. You are an ace with the eye for the good stuff!
Thank you so much for joining this summer hop. I hope your summer is filled with all good things.
Thanks, Rita, this is sweet praise from a great fellow thrifter and estate sale shopper. I am really lucky in this area to have so many great thrift stores. We are a little further ahead in the garden this year. It’s been such an unusually wet and cool spring. I’m loving it. Everything you put in the ground just seems to grow on its own this year. Thanks again for all your work in putting the hop together. You are greatly appreciated. Have a wonderful summer.

This is such a fun and charming table! From the cute farm trucks on the plate to the peek out the window, it just invites me in! Chicken salad sounds delicious!

I love everything farmhouse, so your plates are the cutest thing ever! I love the color of the trucks on them. Who wouldn’t love a vintage apple green truck? I wish I had one! Your goblets and the other greens on your table blend so prettily with the plates. I love coleus, and the variegated leaves on the red truck look so nice together. Very cute down-home table. Oh, and I also love your flatware. The swirls are fab! Happy summer!
If I were gong to have a truck, I think apple green would be the perfect color, too. The table was fun to put together. Happy summer to you, too

Hi Lynne, the melamine truck plates were a wonderful find. They were the perfect inspiration for your table. The truck centerpiece, floral tablecloth, green goblets combine for a lovely farmhouse vibe. Love seeing your garden through the window. I plant coleus every year and enjoy using it in arrangements. Happy Summer!
I always enjoy views of your extensive gardens, Pam. We don’t have much land but I try to pack a lot into what we have. It’s fun to create different garden rooms. Wishing you a happy summer.

Lynne, your farm trucks theme is so sweet!! Perfect for summer with all fruit and vegetable stands open for business- we have a lot of fresh produce stands around where I live. There is nothing better than getting fresh corn on the cob picked that morning for a great summer diner. What a great find, I would have snatched those plates up in a hot minute too!! Perfect centerpiece to compliment the adorable plates!! Love it all!! Have a great summer!!☀️🕶️
Thanks, Ann. Like you we have a lot of vegetable and fruit stands around and a great farmer’s market every week. With what I grow in the garden it makes for great summer eating. Hope you enjoy your summer. Have a great week.

Lynne, your table is straight out of the rural countryside of long ago. Both your charming truck plates and your lovely choice of your floral brick red tablecloth. It reminds me so well of my mom’s home and my unclde little red truck. I absolutely love the vintage feel to your table, so relaxing and carefree reminding me of days time was slower and neighbors, friends and relatives gathered on the porch for some leisurely talk and refreshments. I love your choice of coleus for your centerpiece. They are a remarkable plant to use in a landscape, one of my favorites along with hosta. Your pop of buttercup yellow napkins really make it all stand out and yet works beautifully together with the floral tablecloth. An outstanding summer tablescape filled with plenty of nostalgia. Have a great summer.
Thanks, Marsha, I rally love the vintage feel that thrifted pieces can evoke. I grew up with a great summer porch where we gathered for Monopoly games that stretched on for days. Watching the rain come down on the porch with a book in hand was a perfect way to spend time. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful summer.
Lynne
Darling truck plates and such a fun thrifty find! Coleus is a favorite summer annual and makes a perfect and easy centerpiece with the colorful foliage in the bed of your truck! I’m in love with your red cottage floral tablecloth too. So happy to join you at the table hop you again. Wishing you a Happy Summer!

Lynne, this is an utterly charming and carefree table – perfect for summer dining! I love the bright and cheerful tablecloth and the truck plates are adorable. I’m always amazed at what you find thrifting – Pottery Barn napkins – wow – and such pretty ones too! The little red truck is darling and the coleus is vivid and perfect for the centerpiece. It was a pleasure hopping with you and wishing you a very happy summer!
Thanks, Kim. the napkins were a great find and that same day I found three additional sets of Pottery Barn napkins. Someone was cleaning out a closet. LOL. You never know what you’re going to find and we have some great thrift stores in the area. Always a pleasure to hop with you. Wishing you a great summer.
Lynne
Lynne, your table full of garden blooms is soooo charming! I love how all the colors and patterns tie in together so well. The goblet is nicely shaped and its substantial heft is wonderful counterpoint to the delicate florals. I was struck by how you used differently shaped chargers to really add height and color to the plate stack. (I had not heard the term ‘presentation plate’ before.) I’d return again and again to enjoy summer meals here on the screened porch! Have a wonderful summer!
Thanks, Sandra, I think I made up the term “presentation plate” in this context. Didn’t know what else to call it. LOL. the summer hop is always fun to put together and feels more casual and relaxed. You would be welcome on the porch anytime. Have a lovely summer.
Lynne
Lynne, what a fun theme for your table. The theme with the farmer’s market trucks are perfect for summer! I do love a good farmer’s market! Clever centerpiece with the little red truck. Chicken salad wraps are a perfect summer lunch, and it’s fun for me to see your fiddle head flatware. I have a set in a dark gray color that I enjoy using. It’s very distinctive!
Happy Summer!
Thanks, Sarah, I love the fiddle head flatware and have had it for a very long time. It has held up so well. Farmer’s markets are such a summer staple and we go every week to ours for some goodies. One of the great things about summer. Wishing you a lovely summer season.

Everything coordinates wonderfully, Lynne. I’ve not heard of presentation plates before. They look a bit larger than a charger? These are square which is a wonderful find. Who makes them?
Thanks, Robin, I think I actually made up the name as a way to describe these plates/platters. Will add the maker to this comment in the next day or so. They definitely added color to the table.
