Summertime Living Is … Easy

Welcome to the Blog today, Friends!

I’m so happy you stopped by. Summer is in full swing, and with it comes that lovely, laid-back feeling where everything slows just a little. There’s something magical about this season—the warm sunshine, gentle breezes, and the chance to take meals outdoors and really savor the moment.

Today, I’m setting lunch on the screened porch, and it’s all about easy summer style—bright colors, cheerful florals, and, of course, some fabulous thrifted summer dinnerware that feels just right for the season. I hope you’ll pour yourself a tall glass of something cold—maybe sweet tea or lemonade—and settle in for a little summer inspiration.

I’m also thrilled to be joining 17 wonderfully creative ladies as we share our summer tablescapes with you. There are so many beautiful ideas to explore—perfect for bringing a little extra sunshine to your own home. A big thank-you to Rita of Panoply for organizing this fun and inspiring blog hop. She keeps us all on track with such grace and kindness. Thank you, Rita!

Now it’s time to get busy putting this summer tablescape together.

The inspiration for today’s tablescape started with a delightful thrift-store find—these cheerful melamine plates you see above. Each one features a charming vintage truck, loaded to the brim with summer’s bounty—blossoming flowers, garden vegetables, and bushels of color just waiting to be enjoyed. No two trucks are the same, and the playful designs come alive in shades of green, red, blue, and sunshine yellow.

To give them a little lift, I’ve placed them atop classic Mikasa plates with a softly scalloped edge—just enough detail to feel elegant without taking away from the fun of the trucks. Beneath that, a bright red rattan charger adds texture and a dash of summery boldness, all tucked into a vibrant, multi-colored presentation plate that echoes the happy palette of the whole setting. It’s a joyful mix that feels just right for a relaxed summer lunch on the porch.

The centerpiece rests on a lovely floral tablecloth, its soft red background setting a warm and welcoming tone for the table. Sprinkled across the fabric are garden blooms in every hue pulled straight from the truck plates—yellows, greens, soft blues, and rich reds. It’s as if we’ve gathered armfuls of flowers from a summer garden and scattered them right across the table. There’s a wonderful sense of abundance and ease, perfect for an outdoor meal on a breezy afternoon.

At the heart of it all sits a bold red truck—our whimsical centerpiece. It’s cheerful and nostalgic, and tucked inside its bed is a simple glass jar brimming with fresh coleus. The leafy mix of green, white, red, and pink is so vivid and full of texture that I didn’t even need to add flowers. Sometimes, nature does all the work for us. The coleus practically glows in the light, echoing the colors around the table and giving the whole setting a lively, summery charm.

Here you can see some of the beautiful reds and rich, chocolatey browns that dance across the coleus leaves. They’re full of texture and life, bringing depth and a casual elegance to the arrangement. Right now, the coleus is in bloom, and those tiny lavender flowers are just beginning to peek out above the foliage. It’s a sweet surprise—those dainty blossoms rising like little wildflowers, softening the boldness of the leaves and making the arrangement feel even more special.

I love how the mix of color and leaf shape adds a relaxed, homegrown feel to the table. There’s no need for fancy blooms when nature gives you something this vibrant and full of character. It’s a little celebration of summer’s quiet beauty, right in the center of the table.

To keep the mood relaxed and easygoing, I added Fiddle Head stainless flatware—its simple lines and subtle detail are just enough to be interesting without feeling too formal. It’s the kind of flatware that fits right in at a summer table, whether you’re serving sandwiches or something a little fancier.Tucked at the corner of each plate is a lovely napkin from Pottery Barn—another lucky thrifted find. The pattern is cheerful and bright, with touches of golden yellow that echo the sunny tones in both the truck plates and the tablecloth. It’s always a little thrill when everything comes together, especially when thrifted pieces help tell the story.

A simple, colonial style green goblet is the last element of the table setting. The green color is quite soft and adds to that relaxed feel. It will hold either iced tea, lemonade or water.

I’ll be serving chicken salad wraps along with a fresh salad and fresh fruit…a perfect menu for a summer day.

Just beyond the table, you can catch a glimpse of the garden in full bloom—bright blossoms nodding in the summer breeze, as if they’ve joined us for lunch. A peek at one of the chairs reveals cheerful cushions dressed in playful summer colors, adding comfort and a dash of charm to the setting.

In a way, the garden becomes another guest at the table, sharing its beauty and quiet joy with us. The soft rustle of leaves, the hum of bees, and the vibrant colors beyond the screen make this summer meal feel even more special—like nature has pulled up a chair to join the conversation.

Here you can see the overhead view of this bright and colorful summer table—what a joyful mix of color, texture, and garden inspiration! It’s been such a pleasure sharing it with you today. I truly loved pulling together all these vibrant pieces—each one adding a little more energy and happiness to the setting. That’s the magic of summer, isn’t it? Light-hearted, full of color, and meant to be shared.
