Thrifting for the Christmas Foyer

Welcome to the Blog today, Friends!
I’m delighted to share the entryway of my home with you—a space that beautifully reflects the holiday season through a mix of thrifted treasures, both old and new. The foyer is the first thing guests see when they arrive, making it the perfect place to set the tone for the rest of the house.
This year, I’ve created a charming tableau that serves as a reminder of the season’s true meaning. Each piece has been thoughtfully chosen to evoke warmth, joy, and a sense of nostalgia. So, grab a cozy spot, relax, and join me as we take a closer look at this festive entranceway display.
“Angels from the realms of glory…” This beautiful line from one of my favorite carols became the inspiration for the first part of my holiday vignette. These charming angels were a hidden treasure I discovered at Goodwill three or four years ago. Tucked away on a high shelf and covered in dust, they might have gone unnoticed if I hadn’t asked an employee for help to bring them down. The moment I saw them, I was captivated by their graceful appearance and the instruments they carried—perfect for making a “joyful noise.” They’ve become a cherished part of my holiday decor, filling the space with a sense of music and celebration.

The angels are exquisitely detailed, with delicately carved faces and hair that give them such a lifelike quality. Their wings are magnificent, adorned with intricate patterns that seem to capture the light. Dressed in shimmering gowns that drape elegantly, they bring a sense of grace and splendor to the display. To enhance their presence, I elevated them on boxes, creating varying heights that add visual interest and evoke the feeling of a heavenly choir, ready to fill the space with song.

Below the angels, a serene forest scene unfolds, where two golden deer gather around a striking tree adorned with delicate vines. They rest upon a crisp white runner, reminiscent of freshly fallen snow, adding a touch of wintry magic to the display. One deer, adorned with a wreath, lies peacefully on the ground, as if listening intently to the angels’ song. The other stands tall, facing the angels with its face uplifted in rapt attention, as though captivated by the celestial harmony above. Together, they create a tranquil and enchanting tableau, perfectly complementing the angelic choir.

On the edge of the forest, a charming little town comes to life, with sparkling white homes and a lovely church, all glistening under a blanket of snow. This quaint village, glowing with the magic of the season, was lovingly assembled over the past two years, with each piece discovered at thrift stores and carefully saved for just this moment. Together, they form a peaceful backdrop, completing the vignette with a sense of community and quiet joy.

Flanking the central mirror are two festive thrifted Christmas signs, each found for just a few dollars. The sign on the left features a line from a beloved carol, spreading cheer with a heartfelt “Merry Christmas.” The one on the right serves as a gentle reminder of the giving spirit of St. Nicholas, perfectly capturing the season’s essence.
Above, I recently added a new piece to the display. While not specifically Christmas-themed, it features lush green vegetation along a tumbling stream—a peaceful watercolor that blends beautifully with the holiday decor. My wonderful husband framed it in a stunning wooden frame, another thrifted treasure I found recently. His craftsmanship brought the piece to life, and it looks absolutely perfect in its new home, adding a touch of natural serenity to the space.

Here, all the elements come together to create a truly enchanting display. At the heart of it all, adorning the mirror, is a stunning crystal-enhanced wreath with a single shining star at its center. The wreath seems to hover over the scene, casting a gentle, radiant glow that ties the entire vignette together. This luminous touch adds a sense of wonder and reverence, perfectly capturing the magic and meaning of the holiday season.

Across the hall and caught in the reflection of the mirror you can see a rare Christopher Radko train set bringing toys to little ones for Christmas. Holiday pillows are scattered across the sofa and the red in the rug ties it all together.

The doorway is adorned with a thrifted cascade of evergreen, beautifully woven with twinkling white lights. On either side, golden pinecones shimmer softly in the glow, adding a touch of elegance to the entrance. This simple yet stunning arrangement brings a festive charm to the foyer, and as evening falls, the lights create a warm and inviting atmosphere, making the space feel especially magical at night.

Looking down the entranceway from the door you can see the first tree on the right. It’s decorated in victorian style with ribbons that complement the angels’ gowns.

Here is the entranceway as you look toward the front door. During the day, light pours in, bathing the vignette in a warm, natural glow. At night, twinkling lights cast a soft, inviting radiance, creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests as they arrive.
Thank you so much for joining me today on this visit to our front entranceway. It’s amazing how thrifted finds, when thoughtfully curated, can create the perfect ambiance for this special season. Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas filled with love, joy, and peace!

Your lovely foyer makes me think mine is a little bit over the top! But, then I think about it for a bit and realize we just have a different style. I love the way you’ve elevated your angels on wrapped boxes. That’s such a beautiful way to do it. And, that Christopher Radko train set is spectacular! Absolutely stunning and welcoming at the same time!
