Christmas Bookcase Vignettes

Welcome to the Blog today, Friends, I’m so happy you are here. Can you believe we are already at the end of the first week in December. We decorated our tree this weekend and it does look so sparkly in the Great Room. It sits in front of the bookcase. In past years I have decorated all the shelves in the bookcase for Christmas but this year I selected just a few. I’ll be sharing those with you today. You can see the Christmas shelves in the background and they do look festive.

Here you can see several of the shelves and I’ll show you close ups in just a little bit. I used Fitz & Floyd plates, Santas and reindeer to decorate the shelves. Little Christmas trees, declaring Merry Christmas, are also used on the shelves to bring a feeling of the outdoors in a simple way. this year I have really simplified and also not purchased anything new.

this shelf holds a Santa holding an empty dish decorated with a beautiful ribbon and a rabbit and deer who accompany Santa. The dish will hold some lovely chocolates very soon. A little tree has the center spot and on the right is Santa driving a car loaded with gifts for children. The car is also a music box and I wind it up quite frequently.

A fun plate rests against the back of the shelf. It is flanked by a reindeer and a Santa teapot. One reason I love the Fitz & Floyd Christmas pieces is the detail that is used to make them. Beautiful toys are in Santa’s bag and both Santa and his reindeer have distinctive expressions on their faces. They are clearly enjoying the holiday season.

Another shelf holds two different reindeer, a Santa plate and a small Christmas tree. the deer are candleholders and will hold candles …once I put them in. LOL

I love the simplicity of the shelves and the ease of decorating them this year. When life is stressful it’s so nice to be able to decorate without a lot of effort and enjoy the results. It doesn’t have to be labor intensive to be festive.

The tree holds many of our cherished traditional ornaments including Lenox and Waterford ornaments representing the 12 Days of Christmas. they are truly beautiful and we love placing them on the tree each year. this year I didn’t pull out all the traditional ornaments as events kind of overtook us.

We also have many ornaments that tell the story of “A Christmas Carol”. We always retell the story as we hang the ornaments on the tree and this year watched one of our favorite Christmas movies, “The Muppet Christmas Carol”. It reminds us that this is the season of giving and caring for those less fortunate than ourselves.

Decorating the tree, decorating the shelves and enjoying both activities with Family is a tradition I hope will never change. Our Family wishes you and your family a wonder Christmas
