Starting Holiday Decor

Welcome to the Blog today, Friends. I’m so glad you’re here to share in the very beginning of the holiday preparations. Bloggers are always preparing a month or so in advance for the next Holiday. I’ve always kept preparing for Christmas until after Thanksgiving but the last few years I’ve started earlier in November. If you like to get a jump start on the season, maybe a slow transition through November is just your “Cup of Tea”.

I decided to start in the den, a smaller room with mostly fixed furnishings where changes are made by altering the covering on the sofa and a few accompanying pieces on the coffee table.

You can see here that the color changes from browns and creams to a lovely bright white. White and red pillows are added to the sofa to bring in the color of the rug. You can see on the coffee table I’ve added a simple red and white striped table runner. A white bowl filled with greens consisting of Leland Cyprus, a bit of pine, a few sprigs of holly and rosemary and some tea olive adds a natural touch to the room. The greens make a lovely introduction to the season. Flanking candlesticks by Michael Aram are lovely depictions of natural branches that go well with the greenery. It’s too soon for me to add red candles so I chose a soft green that blends in with the centerpiece.

Here’s a closer look that shows more detail in the candlestick as well as a red, white and gold tassel that draws the eye across the table.

A beautiful antique leather box adds to the ambience of the table and keeps if from becoming strictly a Christmas setting. My husband brought the box back from Italy years ago. It’s quite beautiful.

I love how the box and the table compliment one another.

Although the room is leaning towards December decor it’s not completely there yet. As we get closer to December other changes will occur. The pillows will reflect more Christmas and the pictures above the sofa will change to show more red to coordinate better with the rest of the room.

A few simple changes start moving us toward the holiday season. Such fun to start thinking about holiday decor and the transition from Fall to winter. Everything here was thrifted except for the leather box.
