Savor the Moment…Fall Tablescape

Welcome to the Blog today, Friends. There are a plethora of ideas gathered together in today’s Blog to spur on your creative thoughts for decorating your tables for Fall. It’s been such a long, hot Summer I think we’re all ready for the crisp, cool air of Fall.

Today, I’m joining some super talented ladies to Welcome Fall with an abundance of ideas for Autumn table settings. Rita from Panoply has done an outstanding job bringing us together for a celebration of the coming of Fall. If you’re coming from Blue Sky at Home, welcome, isn’t Carol’s neutral table setting lovely?

If you’re looking for some new ideas to decorate your own table…look no further…join us as we Welcome Fall! You’ll find links to all the Blogs on the Hop at the end of this post.

Moments…are connected to other moments… and suddenly we look and all those strung together moments have made a life. The Fall equinox presents a balance between completion of Summer tasks and the abundance of the harvest season. The gifts of the season are balanced with the hard work it took to obtain them. Fall is a celebration of all that hard work and sharing a meal with Friends and Family is a great way to celebrate.

A recent trip to Ireland was brought to mind when I discovered this Noritake china at an estate sale. You can see that post here: https://thriftingwonderland.com/2023/08/25/shopping-an-estate-sale/

The china, from Noritake’s Ireland series, shows scenes from the Irish countryside. Above you have Mallard ducks inhabiting a lake. The male is making a graceful landing to join his mate. The colors in the painting are soft and remind me of watercolor paintings showcasing wild fowl. The image in the center of the plate is bordered by a rich, forest green in a formal pattern that circles the outer rim of the plate. The salad/dessert plate rests on a dinner plate from the same series.

The dinner plate has a similar border but the image in the center is of pheasants in a woodland scene. I love the muted tones and soft look of the images. These plates were the inspiration for my Welcome Fall table setting.

Next, I chose table linens to reflect the colors in the china. A forest green, solid cloth becomes the base and a linen table runner with thin lines of muted tones running end to end draws in all the colors in the woodland scenes depicted on the china. Some of them even look like pheasant tracks. LOL.

The centerpiece is set in a wooden bowl that is filled with the bounties of the Fall garden. Dark green magnolia leaves tie in the plates and tablecloth. Deep purple, green and white flowers add color while lemon verbena adds a beautiful scent to the air. Cutting back some oak leaf hydrangea bushes a few days ago provided a happy surprise in the empty bird’s nest incorporated in the centerpiece design. Every moment spent in the garden is special and to be savored.

The plate stack begins with a leather charger with two lines of stitching to give it a bit of detail. Then the dinner and salad/dessert plates complete the picture. Silver plated flatware adds a touch of elegance to the table. The fluted pattern is embellished with etching that resembles the wing of a bird…maybe a duck?

Napkin rings in woven metal, like a bird’s nest, encircle simple, heavy cotton, cream-colored napkins and are embellished by grasses and magnolia leaves tied with ribbon and raffia. A place holder card is added to the mix.

Formal cut glass crystal in two different but similar patterns are added to the table. The wine glass is “Lady Anne” by Gorham and the water glass is “Rockford” by Noritake.

The table setting creates an “Olde World” feel. You expect the family to troop in from their outdoor pursuits and, after changing, of course, settle at the table for an elegant but casual country meal. You get a better look at the napkins in this picture and see how the grasses tie into the image on the plates.

Surrounding the table are images of Fall. Wooden ducks and swans are found next to a silhouette of a deer on wooden planks. A pottery pitcher is filled with flowers and magnolia bringing the garden indoors. The flowers are beside a ceramic pumpkin in a dark orange color. “Fall is in the Air”

The background enhances the table setting and pulls the look together.

Here’s an overhead view of the table. All the elements work together to create a Fall tablescape that welcomes guests to celebrate this special season. Definitely a moment to be savored.
