This fun Hallowe’enesque (is that even a word) tablescape came together really quickly and was a lot of fun. The inspiration was the black, white and green bird plates that I found recently.
The plates made me think of ravens and the poem, “The Raven,” by Edgar Alan Poe. Poe was a genius in creating a phantasmagorical mood in his writings and I wanted that feeling to spill over to the tablescape. The plates were a thrift store find…6 plates for $2.50.
I had the mottled black and white plates (another thrift store find) already and they worked perfectly to set off the bird plates. A white Mikasa French Country dinner plate with a high rim allowed the plates to settle into the plate stack. (thrifted)
The black and white plates are Majorca by Fitz and Floyd.
The centerpiece was a white and grey skull I got a few years ago at the thrift store and the Raven which I found this week. ($1 at Miracle Hill). They rest on a lace trimmed linen napkin from a set of 6 from Goodwill.
Behind the skull rests a black iron candelabra from Goodwill. It seemed to blend with the mood established by the black oval tablecloth (Humane Society Thrift Store).
The glasses are Opal Innocence by Lenox. I found these at Miracle Hill a few years ago. Couldn’t believe my luck and snatched them right up. I love the cut glass pattern with swirling stems that rise up around the glass.
The houndstooth napkins are from TJ Maxx but the napkin rings are from Goodwill. They have a gothic feel to them and were perfect for this setting.
The black plate under the skull is from a local potter, Gary Huntoon. He makes really great pottery and this worked well on the table. It took about 15 minutes to put this together. I think we’ll enjoy celebrating Hallowe’en at this table celebrating the “Master of the Macabre”. Hope you have a chance to do a fun Hallowe’en tablescape at your house.
