Simple Holiday Kitchen Counter Vignette

We’ve just returned from our travels to beautiful Italy, and my heart is full of inspiration as we step into the holiday season. There’s something so comforting about settling back into home—unpacking memories, brewing a cup of tea, and adding little touches of seasonal cheer. This year I’m going to be shopping my house for all our Christmas decor. So let’s get started.

To ease back into decorating, I put together a simple arrangement for the kitchen countertop using a few thrifted treasures and some natural elements gathered along the way.

I began with a wonderful thrifted wooden slab from our local thrift shop—one of those pieces that practically begs to come home with you. The felt pads on the bottom keep it from scratching the counter, and I love the warm, live-edge shape. Its irregular oval form cradles the other elements beautifully, creating a soft, organic base for the vignette.

I was out clipping back the holly bushes today and couldn’t resist bringing in a few berry-laden sprigs. The dark, glossy evergreen leaves contrast beautifully with the deep red berries, creating that classic holiday color combination we all love. There’s nothing quite like using what’s growing right outside your door to bring a little seasonal cheer indoors.

The holly found its home in a rough earthenware pitcher I discovered at a thrift store years ago. It’s one of those pieces that continues to earn its keep—simple, rustic, and endlessly useful. The warm brown tones of the pitcher echo the natural hues of the live-edge wooden slab beneath it, tying the whole arrangement together in an easy, organic way.

The next piece in the arrangement is a beautifully carved wooden evergreen tree topped with a simple star. It has such charm—almost as if it were whittled during a cozy winter evening by the fire. To give it just a bit of added height, I’ve placed it on a small earthenware bowl. That little lift makes all the difference, helping the tree stand proudly among the other elements.

The warm tones of the wood and the rustic finish of the bowl blend effortlessly with the earthenware pitcher and the live-edged slab, creating a harmonious, natural look. Each piece feels like it belongs to the same quiet woodland story—simple materials, gentle textures, and a touch of handcrafted beauty.

The final element is a bright red pomegranate, sitting quietly yet looking as though it’s just waiting to spill its wonderful fresh flavor—the beautiful ruby morsels tucked inside. Its vibrant color adds the perfect pop of festive cheer and ties in beautifully with the holly berries. Such a simple addition, yet it brings a sense of richness and abundance to the whole arrangement.
