“Have yourself a merry little Christmas. Let your heart be light.”

Christmas is a time for joy and I have tried to create a joyful tablescape that sparkles and shines with the light of the holiday. Many of us feel pressured to overspend at Christmas. This table setting is entirely thrifted. You can create a beautiful Christmas table for much less than you think. Join me as I share with you how this tablescape came about.

“Seeing is believing, but sometimes the most real things in the world are the things we can’t see.” — The Polar Express

It all started with a bit of holiday magic straight from the garden! This year, I’ve been sorting through my Christmas decorations, carefully paring down to the pieces that truly make the season special. My goal is to embrace creativity and use what I already have to envision festive, heartwarming decor. For the centerpiece, I went foraging in the back garden, gathering a bounty of greens to craft a lovely runner for the table’s center.

First, I laid a strip of bubble wrap along the length of the table to protect the crisp white damask tablecloth from sap and other surprises from the fresh greenery. Then, I got to work, layering a gorgeous mix of Leyland Cypress, Tea Olive, pine, and mophead cedar. Each sprig was arranged with care, showcasing the natural textures and vibrant shades of green to create a full and varied garland.

To add a touch of sparkle, I draped a shimmering garland of silver and pearl cascading beads over the greens. A string of battery-operated lights was carefully woven into the arrangement, casting a soft glow that brings the garland to life, especially at night. Mercury glass candlesticks of varying heights were placed along the runner, their shimmering surfaces catching the light beautifully. Finally, elegant white taper candles in candlesticks added height and a timeless charm, ready to cast a warm and festive glow over the table.

This centerpiece feels like the perfect blend of nature’s beauty and holiday cheer—simple yet stunning, full of sparkle, and ready to make any meal feel like a Christmas celebration!

“Don’t let the past steal the present. This is the message of Christmas: We are never alone.” Taylor Caldwell

Next came the plate stack in simple white and gold with just a dash of Christmas color.

“Christmas is a together sort of holiday.” Pooh from “Winnie the Pooh”

These stunning plates are the perfect foundation for a festive and elegant holiday table! At the base of the stack is Noritake’s “Christmas Ball” dinner plate, a true showstopper with its exquisite hand-painted border featuring Christmas ball ornaments. The intricate detailing and shimmering gold accents make this plate a celebration of holiday artistry.

Layered on top is the charming Fitz & Floyd “Christmas Holly Dove” salad/dessert plate. The delicate dove design, surrounded by vibrant holly, adds a meaningful touch, symbolizing peace and the true spirit of Christmas. To complete the stack, I added the Noritake bread and butter plate, which carries the same luxurious gold border that catches and reflects the light beautifully.

All these pieces rest atop a gleaming white and gold porcelain charger, tying the stack together with a touch of refinement. This combination of plates creates a harmonious blend of elegance, tradition, and the joy of the season, perfect for making every guest at your table feel the magic of Christmas!

These beautiful napkin rings are by Waterford and the light gold napkins are from Lenox. How wonderful they look as the light reflects from the cut glass.

“What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas … perhaps … means a little bit more!” The Grinch

Beautiful flatware sparkles in the light as it accompanies the plate stack. I thought the silver and gold combination worked well with the plate stack. the intricacy of the flatware makes it interesting and festive.

“Just remember, the true spirit of Christmas lies in your heart.” the Polar Express.

Cut and etched crystal goblets bring a radiant sparkle to the table, adding elegance and charm to the holiday setting. First, we have the stunning champagne flutes from Waterford’s “Twelve Days of Christmas” series. These flutes make every toast feel extra special, with each glass showcasing a beautifully etched scene from the beloved song. For this Christmas table, I’ve chosen the first four days, bringing a delightful touch of tradition to the celebration.

Next are my cherished Pairpoint glasses, treasures from the early 20th century. These elegant pieces, once gracing dinners at The White House, stand as striking examples of the artistry and craftsmanship of American glass manufacturing. Their timeless beauty adds a touch of history and sophistication to the table.

Rounding out the trio is a charming etched glass that complements the other two beautifully, adding balance and grace. Together, these glasses reflect the festive glow of candlelight, inviting everyone to raise a glass and share in the joy of the season.

A Christmas cracker is added to each place setting in keeping with our tradition. This British staple contains a paper hat, a funny saying and a small toy. Christmas crackers have been an addition to our table since my first memory of Christmas dinner.

Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful: By Norman Vincent Peale

Here is the table in all its festive glory, ready to welcome loved ones for a memorable Christmas Eve gathering. Family will come together to share a heartfelt toast and a delicious feast, filled with gratitude for the precious gift of being together.

The carefully chosen dishes glisten under the warm glow of candlelight, their beauty adding an extra layer of joy to the occasion. As laughter rings out and cheerful conversations flow, the spirit of the season will shine brightly, celebrating the love, connection, and cherished traditions that make this meal so special.

It’s a setting designed not just for dining but for creating memories, where every plate, glass, and detail adds to the warmth and magic of Christmas Eve.

A tray full of greens and a golden sleigh pulled by a beautiful winter horse joins a simple silver tree adorned with a single star to decorate the tea tray. The greens host a cardinal in his nest to add a little dash of color. to the scene.

“What is Christmas? It is tenderness for the past, courage for the present, hope for the future.” â€” Agnes M. Pahro

Over on the hutch, a festive display combines cherished pieces and heartfelt touches, creating a warm and welcoming holiday vignette. A collection of Fitz & Floyd red-rimmed Christmas dishes takes center stage, their vibrant rims adding a cheerful pop of color. Nestled among them are some of my favorite sheep decorations, cozy and whimsical, sharing space with elegant white porcelain houses that exude a snowy village charm.

At the heart of the display is a metal sculpture of a Canadian moose, a special nod to my Canadian roots. It stands proudly, blending rustic beauty with personal significance. The matching tea set, tucked into a polished silver tray, adds a touch of refinement. The teapot, gifted to me by my daughter a few years ago, holds a special place, making this arrangement even more meaningful.

To bring a bit of nature indoors, I’ve placed little pitchers of greens into delicate glass creamers. These fresh sprigs of greenery add life and a seasonal touch to the display, tying it together with a hint of the outdoors. It’s a joyful and sentimental arrangement, perfect for celebrating the season!

The candles are lit, the twinkle lights shine and the Christmas tree sends it’s light to brighten the night.

“I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!” â€” Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
