Nosegay in the Den

Gathering dried hydrangeas in beautiful rose colors is a perfect way to welcome the fall season into your home. I’m so happy you’re here today! Let’s spend a few moments together exploring a simple seasonal update and create a nosegay that will bring a smile to your face each time you see it. With just a few steps, you can craft a pretty little bouquet that will brighten up any room and set the tone for autumn.
Crafting a dried hydrangea nosegay
Making a nosegay is simple and adds a charming, personal touch to your seasonal decor. Here’s how to put together your own:
Choose your dried flowers
Gather hydrangeas in warm rose colors, with soft pinks and dusky purples, or even faded greens for a natural look. Feel free to mix in a few sprigs of dried lavender or baby’s breath to add extra texture and fullness.
Shape your Bouquet

Gather your stems from the garden and gently strip away any remaining leaves. You’ll also want to remove any dried or damaged petals that might detract from the beauty of the flowers. These hydrangeas are from a bush that starts off a lovely blue in the summer, but during the drying process, they’ve transformed into delicate shades of pink—adding a perfect pop of soft color for the season. It’s amazing how these little changes happen naturally, creating something new to enjoy as the seasons shift.

Form a nosegay by gathering your stems into a small, compact bouquet, arranging them so that the flowers form a balanced, rounded shape. Next, secure them with a small elastic band—this makes it much easier to handle the flowers as you work. Once your stems are gathered, straighten them out and wrap a pretty ribbon around the base. You can secure the ribbon with a little floral tape and then tie a bow to keep everything in place. The result is a lovely little bouquet that adds a touch of charm to any room and will last beautifully through the season!

Now, let’s take a look at the other touches that make this room feel ready for fall. I draped a lovely yellow quilt over the back of the sofa—it picks up the golden tones in the carpet and brings a soft, cozy glow to the entire space. To complement the quilt, I added a few pillows and a plush throw to the sofa, creating a layered, inviting spot that just begs you to sit down with a good book.
On the coffee table, a matching table runner ties in the color of the yellow quilt, keeping everything cohesive and warm. Nearby, the book stack with the dried hydrangea nosegay brings a touch of the garden indoors, making the space feel fresh and welcoming. To finish things off, a cheeky little pumpkin holds a candle in warm shades of yellow and orange, echoing the colors of a perfect autumn day. It’s a simple setup, but each piece adds its own touch of seasonal charm.

Let’s take a closer look at the coffee table decor and the three key elements that create this cozy autumnal feel.
On the left, there’s a woven and metal basket featuring a large, sturdy handle. It’s filled with an assortment of pumpkins and seasonal fruit, adding texture and rich colors to welcome in the season. In the center, a rust-colored metal pumpkin candle holder steals the spotlight. Its warm tones and intricate design catch the light beautifully, creating a soft, inviting glow in the room.
To the right is our book stack with the dried hydrangea nosegay, tying in the natural colors of the garden and lending a touch of elegance to the display. Together, these three elements bring a bit of autumn’s charm indoors, proving that sometimes a few simple changes can make all the difference.

It’s always fun to capture a room in different lighting conditions to see how the atmosphere changes. Here, you can see how most of the room is in shadow, with just the flowers highlighted, drawing your eye straight to their beauty. Playing with light in your photos can truly set the mood for an arrangement and showcase the subtle colors and textures in your decor.
I’ve really enjoyed sharing this little project with you today. I hope it’s sparked a few ideas for simple, seasonal touches you might want to try in your own home. Making a few quick and easy changes can bring a sense of warmth and autumn charm to any room. Here’s to celebrating the beauty of the season in a way that’s uniquely yours!

I love hydrangeas and they way they change colors. I think ours are dwarf hydrangeas because they haven’t gotten very big at all. The mums are actually bigger than they are. At our house up north, we had hydrangeas. I collected several, dried them, then spray painted them gold for the mantel at Christmas time. They really looked festive and natural. You have such a gift for creating homey spaces, Lynne!
