Let’s Think Fall…Table

Fall is finally here, and it feels like we’ve been waiting forever! It’s time to jump into autumn decorating with both feet, arms in the air, shouting “Yay!” The air is starting to cool—at least on some days—and we can’t help but dream of those crisp, cozy walks through the woods with leaves gently falling all around us. I’m excited to bring a little of that magic to this autumn table setting. Warm tones, soft textures, and a touch of nature will help create that inviting, woodsy feel we all love this time of year!
Just a note to all of you out there. Helene has been a devastating storm for a number of communities…mine included. We’re still without power but I had this Blog already done so decided to go ahead and post it. I’m so grateful it’s not mid-Summer or mid-Winter.. Doing without power is a humbling experience reminding me of all we take for granted in our daily lives. Good thoughts to all of you who are picking up the pieces after the storm. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Having said that, I’m so glad you’re here to share this with me! Lately, I’ve been a bit more budget conscious, so I decided to “shop my home” for all the little treasures that made their way onto this table. It’s amazing what you can find when you look with fresh eyes! I started with a simple woven mat in a lovely straw color to anchor the table, setting a warm and inviting tone right from the start. Sometimes, the best decorations are already right at home, just waiting to be rediscovered!

The dinner plate by Mikasa in the “Flower Basket White” pattern makes a nice neutral base for the plate stack.

I added a small decorative wreath of neutral leaves, which blends beautifully with the woven placemat. The subtle shading in both the mat and the leaves complement each other, creating a natural, harmonious look. To tie everything together, I used twig flatware in gold, which really highlights the warm gold tones in the rest of the setting. While this flatware is no longer available in stores, you can often find it on eBay or Etsy, if you’re looking to add a bit of rustic charm to your own table!

The final touch to the plate stack is a gorgeous hand-painted German plate that truly steals the show. It showcases all the rich autumnal colors we love, with a stunning wide gold ring around the rim that adds a touch of elegance. Each plate in the set is unique, featuring different fruits and nuts, which not only adds variety but also brings a playful, seasonal vibe to the table. It’s such a beautiful way to celebrate the harvest season, don’t you think?
A variegated napkin in rich shades of dark orange is gathered beautifully in a simple, wide brass napkin ring, creating a lovely bouquet effect. The deep, warm tones of the napkin complement the rest of the table perfectly, while the brass napkin ring adds a touch of elegance, helping to carry the metallic accents throughout the entire place setting. It’s a small detail, but it really pulls everything together and adds that extra bit of charm!

To complement the neutral tones on the table, I added a beautiful set of hand-thrown water goblet and wine glass from Annapolis Pottery in Maryland. These pieces echo the same leaf and mat colors, blending seamlessly into the overall setting. Their simple, classic forms bring an understated elegance to the table, while the craftsmanship of the pottery adds a personal, artisanal touch. It’s a subtle yet striking way to tie the natural elements of the table together.

The finishing touch is the centerpiece, presented in a long, low birchbark container that’s been a favorite of mine for years. I nestled three bottles into the box, filled them with water and flower food, and then created three individual bouquets using two different shades of mums. The mums add a lovely pop of color, while still blending beautifully with the other earthy tones on the table. It’s a simple yet impactful arrangement that brings just the right amount of vibrancy without overpowering the natural elegance of the setting.

Here’s an overhead of the table. You can see how all the neutral elements as well as the pops of autumn color blend together to form a cohesive whole. It’s a simple and classic autumn look.

It’s easy for everyone to see and chat with their neighbors around this cozy table, making it perfect for good conversations and great company.
Thank you so much for joining me today for this simple yet inviting Fall table setting. It’s always a pleasure to have you visit and share in the beauty of this special time of year. There’s just something about autumn that brings out the warmth in all of us, and I’m so glad to have shared it with you!

That is such a beautiful fall table setting! I love those leaves under the plates and the silverware branches are so unique.
Thanks, Joanne, I enjoyed putting this one together. Hope you have a great week and thanks for stopping by.

Here’s hoping power is restored to your area very, very soon, Lynne. I know you weren’t hid as hard as some, but yes, it is very humbling to have loss of amenities we take for granted.
I love your tablescape. The hand thrown pottery takes me back to the 70s. I had some WV made goblets like those, left behind with my former life. But, I found a few over the years of estate sales, though not a complete set. Very lovely!
Thanks, Rita, this tablescape turned out to be one of my favorite ones. Hoping our power will be back on by tomorrow morning but who knows/ LOL
I hope your power is restored soon. It is unimaginable to me what you and so many others are going through. Asheville, NC is one of my favorite places on earth, and my heart just hurts for all the people.
I love the idea of using leaves underneath the plates. I’m going to have to try that. And, I love your birchbark box. There’s something about old (or new made to look old) glass bottles that win me over every time.
Prayers to you and all around…

North Carolina, about 40 minutes from us was really hit hard and some people have still not been contacted. so scary. Appreciate the kind words about the table setting. have a lovely week.

Such a beautiful setting! Even when I try to mimic I can never get this right. I really appreciate someone who has this type of talent. Thank you for sharing despite the devastation surrounding you. I’m praying for those impacted.
I’m praying, too, Carla. People just 30 – 40 minutes away are really having a difficult time. We were lucky. I used to think I couldn’t get a table right but just lead with your heart and the results willl be wonderful. Have a lovely week.

Hope by now your power has been restored. The after-storm reporting is devastating to behold, for sure. The tone-on-tone layering gives a tranquil fall vibe while the gold rimmed harvest plates lends a bit of zhuzh to the setting.
thanks, Robin, out power came back on after about 5 days and it is much appreciated. We have friends who still don’t have power and North Carolina I still completely devastated. Thanks for asking and happy you enjoyed the table setting. Have a great week.

Oh I have a few of those fruit plates edged with gold too! What fun. They belonged to my husband’s mother.
They are beautiful plates and so colorful for this time of year. Hope you enjoy yours and use them in a setting. Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful week.

I am glad your power has been restored! Your tablesetting is unique with the leaves and twigs–so lovely. I have the same Harvest plates hanging on a wall. Love them and the memories of thrifting with my friend. We moved where “good” thrifting adventures don’t exist. . . so I’m living vicariously through your posts.
Thanks, Charlene, it’s wonderful to have those treasured memories on display so you can appreciate them every day. So sorry thrifting is not good in your area but happy to have you visit anytime. Have a lovely week.
