Rooster on Display

Welcome, friends, to today’s blog! It’s so nice to have you visit. I’m excited to share a recent thrift store discovery that’s full of rustic charm. Meet this wonderfully primitive rooster, proudly flaunting his colorful plumage as he struts around his barnyard domain. His vibrant feathers leap off the rich, wine-colored background, bringing a delightful splash of whimsy and character to any space.

You can see how the rooster’s vibrant image is perfectly framed by this large, beautifully crafted wooden tray. It has these wonderfully deep sides, about 2 and 1/2 inches high, which give it a solid, sturdy feel—just right for those times when you want to pile it up with goodies. The handles rise another 2 inches, making it easy to carry your favorite food and drinks from room to room. It’s practical, yes, but also adds a lovely rustic touch wherever it lands!

Here it is from the perspective of the other side. He is quite a regal little guy and looks so comfortable in his space.

I started loading the tray by placing a few pottery plates with a charming wheat design onto the tray, setting the stage for a warm, rustic feel. Next, I added some pottery soup bowls that complement the look beautifully. There’s just something about pottery that feels like the perfect match for this lively rooster tray—earthy, homey, and full of character!

Next, I added some bright napkins in the same vibrant colors as our strutting rooster—little pops of color that tie everything together. Alongside them, I placed some “Fiddlehead” soup spoons, which, with their unique design, seem to complement our feathered friend quite nicely. Together, they create a playful and inviting setup that’s ready for an intimate meal!

Next some pottery cups from England joined the other pottery pieces on the tray. All the pottery and the napkins were thrift store finds.

To finish things off, I added a pottery pitcher filled with a burst of multi-colored autumn flowers. I just love how the rich greens in the pottery pieces subtly draw out the green in our rooster’s tail, creating a cohesive and harmonious look. It’s a little detail, but it adds so much warmth and charm to the whole setup!

Here’s a look at the entire tray, fully loaded with all the pottery pieces, bright napkins, and “Fiddlehead” soup spoons. It’s all set for the soup to be ladled into the bowls, ready to be savored. And right in the middle of it all, Mr. Rooster stands proudly, surveying the scene with his colorful plumage adding a lively touch to the cozy setup. Farm themes have a way of bringing a sense of comfort and warmth, don’t they? They blend seamlessly with the rich autumn tones and evoke all the beauty of this wonderful season.
Thank you for joining me today to share in the joy of this truly special thrift store find. I hope it inspires you as much as it has me!

Thank you for showing the beautiful handmade stoneware. I was a potter before I retired from throwing in the early 2000’s. So many beautiful pieces were made by artisans and then the imports started and killed the market. Slowly a resurgence of handmade products are coming back…love the blend of all these items for Fall. Sandi
Thanks, Sandra, I love the look and feel of handmade pottery. There’s something special about using a drinking vessel or a plate that someone took the time and energy to make from scratch. Artisan crafts really add to the beauty of any home. have a wonderful week.

Hens and roosters can be a big part of many decorative styles and they are always fun to see. Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely week.

I have a gigantic rooster cookie jar and some rooster salt and pepper shakers. I’ve decided not to try to get my pumpkins out of the attic this fall (bad knee on my part, hip surgery on the husband’s) so maybe we’ll go with a rooster theme on the table! I do love your fiddlehead flatware!

Thanks, Marsha, not going into the attic sounds like a very good choice. Give yourself time to heal without risking an injury. Roosters work for Fall and the colors are great. Have a wonderful week.
