Morning Tea in the Garden

Welcome! Welcome! I’m delighted you are joining me today for morning tea in the garden. Spending a lot of time in the garden is a joy to me and I love to be able to sit amongst the flowers and sip a quiet cup of tea. The garden is filled with the scent of lavender, camellia and roses. Bees are buzzing as they meander their way through the blooms pollinating as they go. Birds are flying to and from the feeders calling to one another and the breeze is rustling the leaves in the trees. It’s a beautiful setting for a mid-morning respite. So pour a cup of your favorite beverage and join me as we share this beautiful morning together.

We’re also joined by some very creative bloggers who have put together beautiful summer table settings for you to enjoy. There are so many great ideas shared by these lovely ladies. I hope you will click on the links at the end of this post and visit with each of them for a bit. A big thank you to Rita of Panoply for putting this Blog Hop together. Her organizational skills are legend and her hard work is much appreciated. Thanks, Rita!

Now come with me for a little summer tea in the garden.

I created this little area in the garden where I keep a bench made from two wrought iron plant holders and some boards. Mostly the bench holds flowers with scattered pots on the stones at the base. The cobblestones are at one end of the herb garden with tea olive bushes planted along one side and an ornamental tree providing shade on the other side. Behind the bench you can look into the herb garden while sitting in a nice shady spot.

For this morning I moved the bench so it faced the herb garden and added two small tables to the cobblestone area. A thrifted throw covers the wooden boards of the bench for a comfortable place to sit. The tables are covered with a beautifully embroidered, heavy, linen cloth bordered with lavender nosegays and edged in green scroll work.

Beautiful Doulton plates, in the same green as the table covering, display a center of lemon branches and a geometric border to add a touch of whimsy to the setting. The colors match even better than I had hoped.

A vintage stoneware tea service in off-white sits on a lovely scalloped porcelain tray. The milk will be added right before serving to keep everything fresh and cold.

A crystal milk pitcher is filled with hydrangea in blues and pinks and wonderfully fragrant camellia blossoms. They are so pretty in this garden setting and smell heavenly.

An embroidered napkin sits on the plate with twigged flatware slipped through the napkin ring to rest on the linen napkin. Chilled yellow watermelon shares a cut crystal sherbert glass with fresh blueberries…a refreshing and tasty snack to accompany the “Paris” black tea with rose petals. I drink hot tea year round but love the floral offerings in the summer.

The table is so pretty with all the colors of summer on display…and yet it is still peaceful and relaxing surrounded by beautiful plantings. We can sit here sipping flowered tea and snacking on chilled fresh fruit while enjoying the sights and sounds of the garden. What better way to spend a few tranquil moments that will definitely rejuvenate you for the rest of a busy day.

Mid-morning tea in the garden…a special moment to cherish. I’m so happy you could join me today and share this teatime with me. It’s such a joy having you here in the garden.
