Morning Tea in the Garden

Welcome! Welcome! I’m delighted you are joining me today for morning tea in the garden. Spending a lot of time in the garden is a joy to me and I love to be able to sit amongst the flowers and sip a quiet cup of tea. The garden is filled with the scent of lavender, camellia and roses. Bees are buzzing as they meander their way through the blooms pollinating as they go. Birds are flying to and from the feeders calling to one another and the breeze is rustling the leaves in the trees. It’s a beautiful setting for a mid-morning respite. So pour a cup of your favorite beverage and join me as we share this beautiful morning together.

We’re also joined by some very creative bloggers who have put together beautiful summer table settings for you to enjoy. There are so many great ideas shared by these lovely ladies. I hope you will click on the links at the end of this post and visit with each of them for a bit. A big thank you to Rita of Panoply for putting this Blog Hop together. Her organizational skills are legend and her hard work is much appreciated. Thanks, Rita!
Now come with me for a little summer tea in the garden.

I created this little area in the garden where I keep a bench made from two wrought iron plant holders and some boards. Mostly the bench holds flowers with scattered pots on the stones at the base. The cobblestones are at one end of the herb garden with tea olive bushes planted along one side and an ornamental tree providing shade on the other side. Behind the bench you can look into the herb garden while sitting in a nice shady spot.

For this morning I moved the bench so it faced the herb garden and added two small tables to the cobblestone area. A thrifted throw covers the wooden boards of the bench for a comfortable place to sit. The tables are covered with a beautifully embroidered, heavy, linen cloth bordered with lavender nosegays and edged in green scroll work.

Beautiful Doulton plates, in the same green as the table covering, display a center of lemon branches and a geometric border to add a touch of whimsy to the setting. The colors match even better than I had hoped.

A vintage stoneware tea service in off-white sits on a lovely scalloped porcelain tray. The milk will be added right before serving to keep everything fresh and cold.

A crystal milk pitcher is filled with hydrangea in blues and pinks and wonderfully fragrant camellia blossoms. They are so pretty in this garden setting and smell heavenly.

An embroidered napkin sits on the plate with twigged flatware slipped through the napkin ring to rest on the linen napkin. Chilled yellow watermelon shares a cut crystal sherbert glass with fresh blueberries…a refreshing and tasty snack to accompany the “Paris” black tea with rose petals. I drink hot tea year round but love the floral offerings in the summer.

The table is so pretty with all the colors of summer on display…and yet it is still peaceful and relaxing surrounded by beautiful plantings. We can sit here sipping flowered tea and snacking on chilled fresh fruit while enjoying the sights and sounds of the garden. What better way to spend a few tranquil moments that will definitely rejuvenate you for the rest of a busy day.

Mid-morning tea in the garden…a special moment to cherish. I’m so happy you could join me today and share this teatime with me. It’s such a joy having you here in the garden.

What variety are the camellia blossoms? They are so pretty but look a lot like gardenias. Nice job with the florals.
I’m so glad you asked, Teri, because they are gardenias. I misspoke. I have both in my yard and obviously (LOL) mix up the names. they smell wonderful. thanks for stopping by and have a great week.

What a lovely garden setting to have a retreat from a busy day. To be among the fragrant flowers and the delightful herbs and with a calming cup of tea at a table decorated with delicate decor. I fell in love with your beautiful tablecloth of sprays of lavender. It stole my heart. There is something so tranquil about the colors of lavender and sage green that are combined. The teapot and accessories really adds a feminine touch to the table design. So welcoming and comforting. Happy Summer!
Thanks so much, Marsha, I love tea no matter what time of year and especially if I can drink it in the garden. Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely summer.
Lynne
Taking time out for tea is always a good thing and even better if you can enjoy in the garden! Love your pretty lavender tablecloth and I know the fragrance from your gardenias must be heavenly. Ours just finished blooming a couple of weeks ago. I’ve never seen yellow watermelon, does it taste like the red variety? So pretty and no doubt refreshing paired with the blueberries. As always, it’s a treat to join you at the table and hop with you again, Happy Summer!
Thanks, Mary, yellow watermelon is not quite as sweet and not quite as crisp but certainly pleasant. I hadn’t had it before and decided it would be fun to try. Always a pleasure to join you. Have a lovely summer.
Lynne
Lynne, we are kindred spirits in our love of gardening and tea. The rose flavored tea sounds delightful. I would so love to join you at this gorgeous setting admiring all of your pretty flowers. The lovely tablecloth paired with your china is so beautiful. I have so enjoyed my visit today. It is always a treat to join you in these hops. Happy summer!
You are so welcome, Shannon. I agree that we seem to have similar tastes in gardening and tea. Thanks for stopping by. It’s always a pleasure to hop with you. Have a great summer.
Lynne
Lynne, what a great space to enjoy your tea and fresh fruit. I have never seen or tasted yellow watermelon – do tell of any differences! Your tablecloth is so, so pretty, and the china couldn’t have been more perfectly suited. You do a great job of thrifting and assembling. I wish gardenias were a perennial for us, I LOVE their fragrance, but they’d only be an annual here. I bet the fragrance surrounding you is intoxicating. Coffee is my choice drink, but I do feel like I may migrate to tea, there are just so many nice choices available. Somehow is seems a lighter choice than coffee too, even though I drink both plain.
Thank you so much for participating in this summer blog hop. I love seeing the regional interests of gardens and weather among those of us who set our tables outdoors.
Happy summer!
Thanks, Rita, I had not tried yellow watermelon before. I found it not quite as sweet or quite as crisp but it was still very good chilled. I drink coffee in the morning but tea the rest of the day. I find it more soothing somehow especially the teas with floral petals mixed in. I drink those plain as well. Always enjoy hopping with you. Have a great summer.
Lynne
Lynne, lunching in your garden is a delight. Your bench is so clever, and the tea setting total charm. I love the green with lavender, and the hydrangea and gardenia are lovely together. Thank you!
Thanks so much, Sarah. Having tea outside is always a pleasure. Lovely to get together with you on the hop. Have a wonderful Summer and see you in the Fall.

It’s wonderful that you can grow such beautiful flowers. Your linens are beautiful too – don’t you love when the colors match better than you think? It all works beautifully togther. Thanks for sharing your tea time with us – hope you have a lovely summer!
Thanks, Barbara, the garden is always a pleasure to be in even if I have to spend a lot of time watering and weeding.LOL it’s worth all the effort. Such fun joining you on the tablescape hop. Have a wonderful summer.
Lynne
This would be a charming way to spend a leisurely morning in the garden! The setting is peaceful and I can imagine the scent of lavender coming from the lovely tablecloth. Was it hand-embroidered? Your flowers are gorgeous! I was surprised to see camellias in the arrangement; mine start blooming in December and flower one after the other until mid-March here in N Georgia. I was also surprised to see an orangeish watermelon, something that’s a first for me. It was fun hopping with you this week. Have a great summer!
Thanks, Sandra, the yellow watermelon is a first for me. I had not tried one before but I think I’m going back to the traditional red. It’s a bit sweeter and firmer in texture. The table linens are embroidered but hard to tell if it was by hand. Lovely to hop with you and I hope you have a wonderful summer.
Lynne
I am always up for morning tea in the garden! What a lush setting you have created. And, the bench….genius! Your floral arrangement is so sweet, and I can imagine just how good it smells! I love the branch flatware too. Your tablecloth is gorgeous! I could easily spend a morning here 🙂
You would be more than welcome, Maureen. Tea in the garden is a special time to sit and enjoy nature’s bounty. Thanks for visiting. Have a great week.
Lynne
A perfect match of all items, Lynne. So pretty. When I first served yellow watermelon on 7/4 it created quite a buzz with the grandson & all his friends. I teased & said it might taste more like lemonade. That got them talking & laughing & eager to try. It was a hoot!
Such a happy memory, Robin, and you were way ahead of everyone. The watermelon does look pretty and is quite different. Thanks for stopping by and sharing. Have a wonderful week.
Lynne
