Thrift Store Bar Stool Remake
remake

Welcome, friends! I’m thrilled you stopped by so I can share the story of how these Thrift Store bar stools became our new kitchen favorites. I don’t always strike gold at the Thrift Store, but yesterday was my lucky day—I found four wooden bar stools in fantastic condition that fit perfectly into our home. These charming spindle chairs, made from two types of wood, have dark cherry legs and backs (though they look black in the photo) and light cherry seats that blend beautifully with our cabinetry and floors.
These bar stools bring a simple charm to our kitchen, and their sturdy build promises they’ll be with us for years to come. The spindle design is a classic, offering comfy seating that’s as stylish as it is practical. I love how they seamlessly blend with our decor, making our kitchen feel even more like the heart of our home.
I absolutely loved the look of the chairs, and they were so well made, but there was one little hiccup… they were too tall for our countertop. No worries, though! It just needed a bit of creative tweaking to make these chairs perfect for our kitchen bar. Here’s how we made it work.

First, the chair was measured so that the height could be adjusted to fit the bar. Some wood was fitted over the rungs of the chair to give a stable and level measurement of the legs.. My husband made the wooden levels from some materials we had in the garage.

Then each leg was held firm against the level and a flat hand saw was used to cut off the portion of the leg that was no longer needed. After the legs were the correct height small protective feet were applied to the bottom of each leg.

Old English was used to address any small scratches that happened to the wood in the sawing process. There were minimal scratches to fix as the sawing was done very carefully.

Here you can see the height difference between the original chair on the left and the cut down chair on the right. They turned out perfectly.

The chairs fit beautifully in the space and I am really happy with how they blend into the decor. The simplicity of the design works well with the kitchen.

The remake of the chairs didn’t cost anything as we had everything on hand. It took only a few hours to complete. The best part is the price of the chairs. Each one cost $12.50. So, for a total cost of $50.00 we have four perfect bar stools for our kitchen bar. Sometimes just a little tweaking can take a Thrift Store item and turn it into a perfect addition to your home decor. Thanks so much for joining me for this Thrift Store remake.
