Estate Sale and Thrift Store Goodies

Welcome, Friends, to the Blog today. I’m delighted to share a visit to an Estate Sale and a Thrift Store with you today. Waiting until the final day of a sale can sometimes be a gamble, but it seems luck was on my side. It’s fascinating how the selection at Estate Sales is always different. Often there are hidden treasures like the Gorham crystal glasses in the “King Edward” pattern that I found on this day. The intricate design is lovely, and the glasses are in flawless condition. The last day of a sale often offers the remaining items at half price and that was the case today.

What a fantastic discovery at the Estate Sale! This set of 24 glasses, including wine, water, and iced tea glasses, is not just a practical find but a delightful addition to any home. Imagine them gracing your table, sparkling in the light, and bringing a smile to the faces of your guests. As you can see in the picture many of these glasses still have the original labels. Was this the couple’s original wedding crystal of did they purchase it a piece at a time? Did it sit in a display cabinet and only came out on very special occasions or did they use it when they had another couple over for dinner? How couples interact with each other and a wider group is a source of endless speculation. Entering into the home of someone whose goods are being sold at an Estate Sale makes you wonder how they lived their lives and what was really important to them.

A bowl full of sand dollars was a true treasure, especially considering how rare they’ve become. It’s a reminder of past beach vacations and the simple joys of collecting shells along the shore. While some of them may be broken, the majority are in pristine condition, ready to be transformed into beautiful decorations. My husband’s idea of using them like snowflakes on a Christmas tree is intriguing! Imagine them shimmering with gold and silver accents, catching the light and adding a touch of beachside magic to our holiday decor. I’ll keep you updated on this project.

Sand dollars are indeed fascinating creatures! Their delicate beauty and intricate patterns make them a wonder to behold. It’s amazing how nature creates such intricate designs, almost like miniature pieces of art.

I stumbled upon the third set of items…charming blue and white plates at the Thrift Store! They’re a modern take on a classic pattern, designed to withstand the rigors of modern kitchens with their dishwasher and microwave-safe qualities. I adore blue and white china myself and have a small collection of various patterns. Mixing and matching them always creates such a lovely and inviting table setting, no matter the season.
Bringing home those four dinner and four salad/dessert plates was such fun, especially at such an incredible price. And to think, my day had already been filled with two other great finds. I’m truly thrilled with all these new pieces and couldn’t wait to share them with you. Thank you for joining me on this little journey of discovery and delight!

What a fabulous find, Lynne!!! So exciting. Love the plates, too.
Thanks, Robin, it was exciting to see all those glasses still together and I really liked the pattern. The plates are very sweet. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week.

Oh, those glasses are beautiful! I’m sure they will be gracing your table soon. I didn’t realize sand dollars had become rare. That’s sad because I know how excited my kids were to find them. Thanks for sharing your finds!

thanks, Marsha, I really like the glasses and plates. Last year when we were at the beach people were being informed that it was illegal now to pick up sand dollars. We saw fewer sand dollars than we had ever seen before. So we left our finds on the beach as requested. Hope they are able to renew. Thanks for sharing and have a lovely week.

How nice that you appreciate these old things. Today they are not valued at all, sadly. Both of my husband’s parents worked for Gorham and the stemware is exquisite.
It really is lovely, Leslie. All these beautiful pieces seem to sit in a cupboard these days but I like to use them on my every day table. there’s something special about drinking from a lovely crystal glass. Thanks for visiting and sharing. Have a lovely week.
