Friends and Pasta

Welcome to the Blog today, Friends, I’m so happy you are joining me here today. As you may know I’ve been studying Italian with a Friend for the past year and a half and we get together once a week. My Husband who speaks fluent Italian is there to correct our pronunciation and explain construction of the language when we meet. Today we broke from our usual routine and decided to make an Italian lunch while attempting to speak Italian while we are cooking. What we ended up doing was spending the time laughing and eating with some Italian thrown in the mix.

We started the morning by making our own pasta on the counter. The picture above shows a well of all-purpose flour with some eggs in the center of the well ready to be mixed.

After the pasta was together and had rested for about an hour and, frankly, after we sat for a bit , had something to drink, and talked about the process, it was time to roll out the pasta.

In the picture above you can see us putting the pasta dough through the pasta maker.

In the final step the pasta is put through the cutter to make wide pasta and then formed into pasta nests.

We made a quick tomato sauce from crushed, canned tomatoes, diced tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, basil in oil and oregano. It took about 15 minutes. I’ll include a link to the recipe.

There were chocolate covered strawberries for dessert. They were Yummy!

Here is the pasta being served with a basil leaf garnish.

This was how the table looked except for the bread which was in the oven warming up. The bread was homemade by my friend, Sally, and absolutely delicious. We served the bread with a dipper that was very tasty.

Here is my partner in learning the Italian language, Sally Ann. We are certainly enjoying the journey. We had such fun making this Italian meal and enjoying it while learning some Italian. Thanks for joining us. Buon Appetito!
