Happy Dance Thrift Store Find

Welcome to the Blog today, Friends. I am so excited to share this find with you. As you probably know, if you’ve been following the Blog for awhile, I’m a bit of a chinaholic. In fact I’m a really big fan of good china. So, today, I was at my local Goodwill with my husband and we were in the dish aisle when he showed me a set of dishes that were taped together.

He had found the stack you see on the left. The stack was taped together and the whole thing was priced at an unbelievably low amount. More on that later. I looked around the dish area and came up with two additional taped stacks each one priced the same as the first taped stack of dishes.

The pattern is Mikasa’s, “Cajos Belle Terre”. These are dishes that I have liked for a number of years but really couldn’t justify the expense. Shown above are eight large soup bowls/ pasta bowls that were included in the collection of dishes.

The pattern included eight dinner plates, six salad/dessert plates, eight soup bowls, six cups and saucers, one large platter, one serving bowl, one large soufflé dish, a salt and pepper set, and a cream and sugar. I think there are 42 pieces included. I did a search on prices and found that we had purchased approximately $980.00 worth of dishes. These are dishes I really like and would expect to find maybe at an Estate Sale but not a Thrift Store….not these days.

We were fortunate to be there just after they put these dishes on the shelf.
So, now my reason for the title of this blog, “Happy Dance Thrift Store Find”…almost $1,000 worth of beautiful china for…$11.25. Certainly, the best find, so far, this year. Best of luck on your next Thrift Store outing.
I’m still dancing. LOL

OMG…FANTASTIC I remember finding a pattern in Florida once for you..32 pieces..$32..and I thought that was the “happy dance” bargain..the China is gorgeous…
♥️♥️😞

What a find! Lately Goodwill has been clueing in to the thrift renaissance and pricing stuff waaaay too high, but it looks like you got a DEAL. What a beautiful pattern and it looks like someone took very good care of it.
Thanks, Gina, I think this was someone’s “company” china as it is pristine with no knife marks or blemishes. Goodwill is definitely raising prices. Finding this set was very unusual. Thanks for stopping by and sharing. Have a great week.
Lynne
I’m doing a happy dance for you! Goodwill is overpriced and is losing its thrift store status.
The merchandise at Goodwill is definitely increasing in price, Lulu. Seems as if that is true in all the thrift stores. Also many more shoppers. It makes it twice as nice when you find a special item at a great price. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week.

What an incredible find. Even at double of what you paid it would have been fabulous. You scored big. Enjoy it and I can’t wait to see the tables you set. Have a great day. XO- MaryJo

Wow, what a find! That works out to twenty-seven cents a piece and such a beautiful set. No wonder that you did a happy dance.
I hadn’t worked out the price per piece, yet but that is pretty amazing. Thanks, Jan. I really love the look of this china. Can’t wait to use it. Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful week.

Wow! You lucked out–on the china and your dear husband!!!! Can’t wait to see the tablescapes; I’m sure you have lots of linens that will go well with them. And they will be pretty, summer into fall especially! And enough for company! I love soup bowls like that; you can pick out veggies to cool and put them on the edge! As kids, we would try to find our names or words in the alphabet soup and put them on the rim while the soup cooled!
Thanks, Kathy, my Husband is certainly a keeper. I agree that this pattern will work in multiple seasons and the colors go with lots of tablecloth choices. It’s lovely to have good memories of childhood things. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful week.

I don’t know what’s best…that you got such an amazing deal, that your husband found it, or that it’s a pattern you’ve been wanting! What a beautiful pattern it is, too!
