Winter Table Setting

Welcome to the Blog today, Friends. This week I was playing with combining stripes, plaids, flowers and solids to create a winter tablescape that was simple yet fun. Join me as I take you through the process. It’s always quite fun to play with the different types of patterns and come up with a pleasing presentation.

Above you can see the different patterns that were combined to make this table setting. The place mat is a simple black and white striped pattern that grounds the additional patterns. Next is the charger in a black and white plaid pattern. I love using plaids in a setting. The dinner plate is by Stafford and is a really pretty flower and vine pattern that circles the edge of the plate. Wedgewood makes the salad/dessert plate and has a repeating pattern of checks and dots that circle the rim of the plate adding interest to the solid white color.

Stacked up the patterning looks like the picture above. All the different patterns work together to create an interesting but calm look for the table. Sticking to two colors, black and white, binds the pieces together even though the patterns are quite different.

Next I took a black and white checked napkin. The napkin is folded in an accordion pattern and then held together in the center to form fans at either end. The napkin is set in the center of the salad/dessert plate. the napkin holder is a black metal that follows the color theme.

Flatware with black handles pick up the black in the various patterns of the place setting and add some weight to the table.

The crystal water goblets and wine glasses are by Lenox and the pattern is Opal Innocence. It has a beautiful vining pattern on the bowl of the glasses. The vines in the plate are echoed in the crystal.

A simple centerpiece of mums in a crystal vase sits on a black plate to continue the black and white theme of the table setting.

Here’s an overhead view of the table. It’s a pretty Zen look even with all the patterns that are in play. Most everything was thrifted so it was also very cost effective to create this look.

It is so nice to have you join me as we explored the idea of combining different patterns to create a lovely and calm winter tablescape. Hope to see you again soon.
