Christmas Tree Magic

“A Christmas tree is loved by everyone because it is a source of true happiness.”
Welcome, Everyone, to one of my favorite Blogs of the year. I’m so glad you’re here and hope you will really enjoy exploring these beautiful table settings along with me.
I’m joining a group of very creative ladies as they each present their interpretation of a Christmas tablescape. Rita of Panoply has brought us all together for this wonderful holiday hop and I am so thankful for her dedication and hard work. Rita, you are the best. At the end of this post you will find links to all the other ladies joining us today in this holiday Blog Hop.

Now, sit back with a cup of your favorite beverage and enjoy with me these great tablescape ideas. I decided to use trees as my inspiration for this year’s Blog Hop. I also decided to “shop my home” and use what I already had on hand. So I began by pulling out the storage tubs that housed a variety of trees of all shapes, sizes and materials. What could be more perfect for a table setting theme about trees than Spode’s, Christmas Tree, pattern. that’s where the journey began.

“Christmas trees are at the center of Christmas. They are the shimmering light that brings hope to all.”
I laid the foundation for the table with a white, textured tablecloth by Dansk. On top of that I laid a dark green table runner to act as a base and a guideline for the greenery that would come next.

“Christmas magic is all around, now that the Christmas tree is out.”
Leyland Cypress from the garden became my live runner . It worked out beautifully. Forest green wooden chargers joined the greenery on the table as a base for the china to come.

Memories are lined in the smell of pine.
I’m using the classic “Christmas Tree” pattern by Spode. It’s definitely a traditional pattern and I love using it around the holidays. What’s not to love about an evergreen tree beautifully decorated with presents underneath just waiting to be opened and Santa perching in the top of the tree.

“Christmas Magic is silent. You don’t hear it – you feel it. You know it. You believe it.” Kevin Alan Milne
The Spode is paired with another classic pattern by Fitz & Floyd called “Yuletide Holiday”. This pattern has a gorgeous red and gold border with a gold ribbon wrapped around Christmas greenery. The edge is scalloped and the green border around the Spode china works well to showcase this lovely plate.

“Some Christmas tree ornaments do more than glitter and glow, they represent a gift of love given a long time ago.” – Tom Baker
A “Christmas Tree” bread and butter plate completes the stack and a butter knife with the Spode Christmas Tree on the handle is laid across the plate.

“Tree decorating with cats. O Christmas tree, O christmas tree, your Ornaments are history!” – Courtney VanSickle
Here’s a nice close up of the flatware showing the beautiful Spode tree in inset porcelain on the handle of each piece. The pieces are accompanied by a sateen napkin with green bordered scalloped edges and a simple embroidered pine sprig on the napkin. I found the flatware a few years ago at Goodwill. I have 12 place settings with multiple serving pieces that I use throughout December. They are subtle and lovely with holly sprigs etched on the handles.

“It’s not what’s under the Christmas tree that matters, it’s who’s around it.” – Charlie Brown
The crystal glasses are two of my favorite patterns. The taller wine glass is by Pairpoint, an American maker whose crystal graced the homes of many well known Americans. It is stunning. Next to the very tall wine glass is a balloon glass by Waterford. I love how these pieces look together on the table. They absolutely make guests feel very special when they sit down for dinner.

“Your boughs are green in summer’s glow / And do not fade in winter’s snow / O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree / You stand in verdant beauty” – Ernst Anschuetz
You can see in this picture that pops of red join the evergreen table runner. Pomegranates are placed in a group of three at one end and pick-up the red in the Fitz & Floyd plates. Red candles held in Mikasa, Starburst, candleholders add to the cheeriness of the center runner.

“Freshly cut Christmas trees smelling of stars and snow and pine resin – inhale deeply and fill your soul with wintry night.” – John J. Geddes
Across from the table the hutch is decorated in Christmas trees, too. Faux trees covered in snow, glass trees and silver trees showcase the Spode, “Christmas Tree” china displayed on the shelves. Some live evergreen branches tie in with the table runner.

“Never worry about the size of your Christmas tree. In the eyes of children, they are all 30 feet tall.” — Larry Wilde
More evergreen drapes on the chandelier. On the teacart you can see a gathering of silver and blue trees that enhance the blues in the painting on the wall above. My favorite Fitz & Floyd deer stands between the trees in majestic silence. A simple wreath adorns the mirror reflecting other portions of the room.

“Just remember, the true spirit of Christmas lies in your heart.” — Santa Claus, The Polar Express
As a final touch I added an individual tree to each place setting. I thought it might be too much but I kind of like it. What do you think?

“A cold wind was blowing from the north, and it made the trees rustle like living things.” — George R.R. Martin
Here you can see the whole table and the rest of the dining room. It was such fun putting this table together with you today. Thanks, Carole, they are definitely a favorite and add such a nice splash of seasonal color. Thanks for stopping by and sharing. Have a lovely week.

First of all, I really like the theme of your blog. Secondly, I love your Spode Christmas Tree collection! 😀 I like how it’s displayed in your dining room. I love how you added the little trees to each plate stack. I don’t think it’s too much at all, I think it’s just right because your linens and pretty centerpiece/runner are simple, and the trees add sparkle and match your napkins. SO CUTE! I hope you have a Very Merry Christmas!
Thanks, Ricki, Christmas is such a happy time and what says that better than trees and children. Hope you have a lovely holiday season.
Lynne
Very pretty table Lynne. The Fitz and Floyd plates caught my eye. They go so well with the tree plates. You have quite the collection and they all look lovely in your hutch. The evergreen runner is a pretty decoration. Love your mirror with the wreath. So elegant. a
Always a pleasure hopping along with you. May your holidays be joyful.
Thanks, Linda. Christmas brings out the best in holiday decorations and joyful appreciation of loved ones. Always a pleasure to hop with you. have a joyous holiday season.
Lynne
Lynne, what a lovely and oh so festive table! I’ve always loved the Spode pattern — with pieces purchased for my SIL who has an extensive collection. She’d be envious and adore the matching flatware; what a find! And your crystal is divine! Merry Christmas!
Thanks, Debbie, love to decorate for Christmas with some traditional elements. sounds like your SIL has a collection I would love to see. Hope you have a lovely holiday season.
Lynne
Beautiful table Lynne, who doesn’t love a Christmas tree! I have the Spode Christmas Tree china too, and always use it for the month of December. It looks fabulous with the F&F plates, those are gorgeous! Lucky you to find the matching flatware at Goodwill, I’ve never seen that before. Love the fresh greens and the little trees at each place and all the trees in the room. I hope you have a very Merry December!
Jenna
Thanks, Jenna, the Spode is definitely a Christmas staple and I love using it throughout December. It was such fun doing the hop. Hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season.
Lynne
Beautiful table setting with the Spode tree pattern and those gorgeous Fitz and Lloyd Yuletide Holiday patterned plates. The pomegranates and candles nestled in your garden greens match perfectly to your plates. Your other Spode plates and the glass trees in your hutch are a nice addition to your dining room decor.
You are certainly set for Christmas. Love your quotes too.
Thanks so much, Jan, I love using traditional china at Christmas. Fresh greens and fruit also seem like good partners in a Christmas setting. Hope you have a lovely holiday with Family and Friends.
Lynne
*Lynne, your Christmas tree plates are timeless and complement your elegant table setting beautifully!
Cecelia
Thanks, Cecelia, wishing you and yours a lovely holiday.
Lynne
Lynne first I want to say I love your quotes…Perfect just perfect for your trees. The Spode tree is a favorite of mine and I have seen the flatware but always very expensive… so great find for you. I am sure the fragrance of your pine needles fits in beautifully with your lovely table setting. The F&L plates are a great match and using the poems is so creative. So many people forget about using them in Christmas settings. Have a great and wonderful Christmas.
Thanks, Kari. It’s fun finding different quotes applicable to a situation. Christmas has so many. Wishing you and yours a lovely holiday season.
Lynne
Lynne, I have always loved the Spode Christmas tree pattern. It is perfectly paired with the Fitz and Floyd. Your Leyland cypress table runner sets the stage for your lovely table. I prefer to use the cypress because it doesn’t leave sap or shed as badly as cedar or pine. I enjoyed all of the quotes that you used. Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas!
Thanks, Pam, I agree about the cypress. It’s festive and doesn’t cause problems on the table. Wishing you and your family a lovely holiday season.
Lynne
What a gorgeous table! I used to gift thrifted Spode to friends who once had a collection of it. Wish I’d collected it for myself, too! The crystal was stunning! The quotes were so apropo! One of my faves is Dickens, probably not word perfect; “He who does not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree.” Hope your husband recuperates quickly!
Thanks, Kathy, I love that Dickens quote. such fun to set a table at Christmas. Thanks for sharing and have a happy holiday.
Lynne
Lynne, your Spode collection is gorgeous and you’ve showcased it beautifully on your table. I can see why the crystal stemware are your favorites as they as so lovely. I love how the green charger frames the Spode plates and the F&F plates add another wonderful layer to your plate stack. The Spode flatware is beyond beautiful. I love your live runner and I imagine that it smells heavenly. Love the quotes too. Wishing you a very merry Christmas and a wonderful holiday season.
Thanks, Kim, this was such a fun theme to work with. Love this time of year and all the possibilities. Wishing you and your Family a lovely holiday season.
Lynne
Lynne, I can almost smell your beautiful table!!! I love how you used fresh greens for your runner and then kept it simple with the pomegranates. Your Spode plates look fabulous with the Fitz & Floyd, wonderful pairing! And your hutch is perfectly appointed! I hope you have a very merry Christmas season!🎄🤶
Thanks, Ann, Christmas tablescapes are always a pleasure to put together. Wishing you and yours a lovely holiday season.
Lynne
Lynne, your table is classic! I once had some dinner plates in Spode, but passed them along to my niece. I agree, they are perfect for the holidays, and the F&F plate is fabulous. The green runner for the greens is a great idea. I’m going to remember it. I like seeing your styled hutch as well. Your dining room is festive and welcoming. Happy Holidays!
Thanks, Sarah, Christmas always offers such great ideas for celebrating. Have a lovely holiday season with your Family and loved ones.
Lynne
Lynne, Spode Christmas Tree is so evocative of Christmas, how lucky you found the flatware too! What a beautiful and festive display in your hutch with the glass trees. I love it framed and paired with your Fitz & Floyd “Yuletide Holiday” at your table. I’m smitten the delicate etched stems of your Pairpoint crystal goblets. I had to google and just read that it’s America’s oldest glass company!! As always, it’s a treat to join you at the table and hop with you. Wishing you a Merry December and Christmas Season! 🎄
Thanks, Mary, the Pairpoint is a definite favorite. Always a pleasure to spend time with you on a hop. Have a wonderful holiday season with Family and Friends.
Lynne
Lynne, I love your tree collection, and I’m not even talking about the china….yet. And I thought I had a lot of trees, lol. Your Spode china and Fitz & Floyd plate stack is beautiful, but I’m really lovin’ those green chargers. They remind me of some i saw at Pier 1 on clearance and didn’t buy {sigh}. To have found the flatware, and service for 12 at that, was a real coup, girl. Your thrift stores are definitely better than mine! The crystal pairing is gorgeous! And having the Leyland cypress readily at hand is so nice. It looks especially nice in the hutch. I love the evening glow also.
Thank you so much for being part of this tablescaping group, and I really appreciated your very warm comments to me. It amazes me how the group continually shows creativity and variety. It truly is inspiring, and to have it all in one place makes for great future reference. Merry Christmas season to you and your family, Lynne. Wishing you ALL good health in the new year.
Thanks so much, Rita. It’s such a pleasure to be part of this wonderful group of ladies. I miss Pier 1, too. Used to get so many ideas from their store. Wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday and health and happiness in the New Year.
Lynne
I love everything about your setting… Veryl

Beautiful table. I think the Spode Christmas China is our only complete set of China. My sister started the set and kept adding to it every year and it make for a wonderful Christmas table. I think I even picked up a matching table cloth at one point.
The Spode is really beautiful and classic Christmas. I enjoy using it every year. I have added to the set as I find pieces at Thrift Stores. I bet the tablecloth looks gorgeous. Have a great week and thanks for stopping by and sharing.
Lynne

Lynne, I always love how you use vintage elements on your tables with a modern sensibility. The traditional pattern of the china is enhanced by the live greenery and the mini forest you created throughout the room. Both of the stemware patterns are gorgeous. I adore the F&F deer! It’s been fun hopping with you. Merry Christmas
Thanks so much, Sandra. I love seeing all the different creative ideas in a tablescape hop. the Spode is a classic, traditional pattern that I love to use every year. Always enjoy hopping with you. Have a joyous holiday season.
Lynne
The beautiful plate stack is a lovely contrast against the simplicity of the runner/centerpiece. Such a wonderful fragrance. (How long will the fragrance last?). That Spode flatware is probably one of your top 10 finds! Now it’s time to relax and enjoy the season. Merry Christmas Lynne.
Thanks, Robin, I am definitely going to try and take your advice and relax and enjoy the holiday season. The fragrance lasts several weeks especially, if you keep the stems in water. The flatware was a super find, I agree. Wishing you and your Family a wonderful holiday season.
