Simple Fall Dinner for Two

Fall is definitely on my mind these days. I’m looking forward to cooler weather, walks, picture taking, picnics and all things Fall. Having Fall on the brain naturally led me to making one of my favorite soups, cream of cauliflower, and we had that for a very simple dinner.

It took just a few minutes to put this table setting together. It looks colorful and happy with some pretty Fall colors.

The simple setting begins with a colorful placemat that I found recently at Goodwill. These are from William Sonoma and were in excellent condition with the colors still bright and new. The hand thrown pottery plate was found several years ago. I loved the deep central blue color and the brown edged rim.

A complimentary plate in a different color sits on the second placemat. It draws all the yellow colors out of the placemat.

Matching napkins highlighting the green in the placemats are held by sweet little mallard duck napkin rings. they add a little whimsy to the casual setting while pulling out the yellows, greens and browns.

Some of my favorite everyday flatware is on display here. the blackened handles add to the casual feel of the place setting and I love the curvy look of the knife handles.

Green glasses filled with icy sparkling water are a refreshing addition to the tablescape.

Pottery soup bowls with a deep blue base and grey and brown handles go well with the plates and keep the soup nice and hot for a long time. A little sprig of parsley adds a nice garnish to the soup.

Tasty sourdough bread rests on a beautiful multi-toned wood bread board. Soup and bread make a simple but hearty supper.

A pretty bouquet of fresh flowers in a glass pitcher provides a centerpiece that is appealing to the eye and fits in well with the casual feel of the table setting.

It just takes a few moments to set a pretty table and make even a simple dinner memorable.

After dinner we took a walk downtown by the Falls. It was beautiful with all the lights of the buildings reflected in the water. A lovely end to a casual dinner for two.
