Summer to Fall Transitional Tablescape

Crisp air, falling leaves, oranges, yellows and reds all mean Fall to me. Add in fires, countryside picnics and lots of outdoor activities and you have a perfect season for enjoying family outdoors and in. Taking the leap from Summer to Fall calls for a respite from Summer colors before jumping into the hues of Autumn. I decided to try my hand at a neutral tablescape with just a hint of Fall to help usher in the season.

This setting includes a plate stack of neutral colors and matte finishes. The base is the wooden stick placemats that bring the woods inside. Atop the placemat rests a cream porcelain charger. A Heath dinner plate in a brown-based color holds a grey/brown salad/dessert plate set off-center on the larger plate. Dried grass sprays with a dried orange slice and a place card in casual brown paper are wrapped with thin dark-brown rafia and a sheer white ribbon. Just a hint of Fall resting on top of the plate stack brings thoughts of cooler weather.

A beautiful linen napkin embroidered in a cut flower pattern with a scalloped edge rests on the side of the plate. More neutral and earth tones contribute to the calm of the setting.

Crystal water and wine glasses in a simple cut glass pattern add sparkle to the setting without detracting from the neutral tones.

Flatware with black, curved handles keep the setting grounded.

A wooden candle holder is embellished with white candles and dried hydrangea in dusky pink tones. A little bit of color but still in neutral tones.

The tablecloth is a cream throw with fringe from Pottery Barn. The woven throw adds a rustic look to the table and makes me think of cool nights wrapped up in a warm throw while watching a fire. I love all the neutral tones and the texture in this tablescape. It makes me think of Fall without quite being there.

This picture in a magazine was the inspiration.

My interpretation of the magazine picture. Looking forward to Fall.
