Welcome to the Blog today, Friends. My Husband and I took a walk yesterday around the lake on the Furman University campus. They have a wonderful lake walk that is about 1.5 miles long that allows you to enjoy a beautiful day in the sun. The weather was perfect…about 70 degrees with a bright blue sky and no clouds in sight. Come join us as we enjoy what the lakeside has to offer.

The picture above is of the bell Tower on a promontory that juts out into the lake. The bells ring on the hour and at noon there is a carillon of sound…usually a song played by a student on the keyboard attached to the bells. Quite lovely.

Inside the tower are some circular stairs that go to the top of the tower. You can climb up one level but not all the way to the top without a key.

I love how the light comes through the doorway and creates shadows from the stairs. You can see the lake in the background. There are benches around the tower and it’s a pleasant place to sit on a lovely day.

We found this tree on one side of the tower and as we looked closer we could see faces in the trunk. What spirit might inhabit this tree in such a lovely spot? I’m sure they must be peaceful and friendly watching all the students and visitors that enjoy the lake.

In the Winter you can really see the shape of the trees without the foliage to mask the bones. This one has a beautiful arch sheltering the walkway below. Clearly the wind comes from the right causing the tree to lean left.

We were treated to a look at a resident heron who feeds on the lake. We see him often when we walk here. The water was so quiet on this day that the reflections were beautiful.

The heron stepped away from the tree’s reflection and I was able to catch a great silhouette of the magnificent bird as well as a wonderful reflection in the water.

Our walk around the lake was a wonderful way to enjoy the day. Thanks for joining me with a little bit of what nature offers on a beautiful winter day..

  1. I always love it when I spot a great blue heron here in Maine. What a lovely walk and opportunity for your great photography! I envy your warm temps it is 25 here in Maine with enough snow to know it is WINTER!

    1. We’re back in the 40’s and 50’s now but it was wonderful to have a taste of Spring. Cold temperatures in the North is a major reason we moved further South. Hope things warm up for you soon. Have a great week.
