Welcome all to today’s blog on using Thrift Store finds in your home decor. These last couple of weeks the outdoors has really been warming up and lots of plants are in bloom. The warm days allow me to use our outdoor porch for meals and today I took advantage of the warm weather and set the table on the porch.
I started with the checked tablecloth which speaks “picnic” to me. We’re not quite at the picnic stage but this will be the next best thing. I found it at a Miracle Hill last year for about $2.40. the tablecloth is the beginning of the thrifted goods for today.
The plate stack starts with a round woven placemat. I like to use white when I can because it makes the other colors “pop”. Next comes a red Kate Spade by Lenox plate that I picked up at a little independent Thrift Store. I have a set of 6 plates and three salad plates. The whole set was under $5. It was a great find and one I use throughout the year. I’m looking for an additional salad plate.
I layered a Villeroy & Boch white patterned plate on the red plate to repeat the round place mat and to separate the two different colored chinas. The salad plates came with dinner plates and were a really good find.
The double-handled soup/fruit bowls came next. They rest on their matching plates. The red dinner plate and the blue and white soup plates go well with the tablecloth. It’s nice when the colors can compliment one another and carry throughout the table setting.
The glassware is my favorite every day crystal, Park Lane by Mikasa. This crystal pattern is no longer being made so you have to find pieces in Thrift Shops or online. It is quite weighty and with all the facets sparkles in the sun or in candlelight. It’s adaptable to almost any setting.
The silver-plated flatware is one I picked up recently. The pattern is Holmes and Edward’s Lovely Lady. It’s a pretty simple and delicate pattern that is suited to outdoor or indoor dining.
Blue and white napkins are held by glass napkin rings filled with water and each one holds a fresh-picked azalea blossom. They azaleas are also in the flower centerpiece.
The centerpiece is what is called a long and low arrangement. It was quite fun to make and picks up the colors in the Danish china.
Here’s an overview of the whole table. I like to keep some open space on the table so people don’t feel crowded and we have as much space as possible between diners.
In the background you can see the back garden. It’s such a pleasure to sit out and enjoy all the plants and the birds that visit the garden.
Can’t wait to enjoy a meal out here on the porch. It will be our first since Spring began. Enjoy your own gardens and take a respite from your busy days to enjoy a little Nature.
