We’re passed the middle of Winter and headed towards Spring and I wanted to put together a tablescape, all thrifted, that would reflect that sentiment. Welcome, Friends, to the Blog today as I use a touch of Winter in the blue and white colors and a touch of Spring with some flowered china and linens to bridge the gap between Winter and Spring.<\/p>\n

I’m not one to use a single china pattern in a table setting but there are occasions when a simple two color and two china pattern place setting can be very soothing. Today I used an English flowered china in blue and white and paired it with a Mikasa salad\/dessert with a scalloped edge in white. I also used matching linens to help set the mood. The placemats are white with a blue flowered imprint and the napkins are the reverse. What do you think of the combination?<\/p>\n

Here you can see a side view of the pieces and how well they go together.<\/p>\n

The place mat is white with a blue flowered design on the right side. That is followed by a dinner plate called Gay Day<\/em> in English china. Mikasa’s Ultima<\/em> is next and then a soup plate and bowl in Gay Day<\/em> completes the setting……very simple. The white Mikasa plate allows the eye to rest between patterned pieces and sets off the blue nicely.<\/p>\n

Two new additions to my crystal collection are used this week. The left goblet is Princeton <\/em> by Tiffin-Franciscan and the wine goblet on the right is Rhythm Platinum <\/em>by Lenox. It’s fun to use new pieces in a table setting and these are quite beautiful. I was excited when I found them at the Thrift Store. You can see more about them here:<\/p>\n

The flatware is silver-plate and made by International Silver in their Lovely Lady<\/em> pattern. The pattern is a pretty gathering of flowers at the base of each handle with etching running up the sides of the piece. Lots of people seem to be ridding themselves of their silver-plate or maybe children of the original owners don’t want to keep it. It’s a shame to let something lovely go unused. I like to rescue sets when I can.<\/p>\n

The napkins are held by a simple silver napkin holder with silver roping outlining the edges.<\/p>\n

The blue and white has a very soothing look and I wanted to keep that quality but I thought a pop of color would be a nice addition to the center of the table.<\/p>\n

A simple cut glass vase of grocery store flowers in pinks and purples add a pop of color. The flowers are suggestive of Spring to come and work with the blue and white to create a pleasing whole. The vase sits on a simple white doilie. The center of the table seemed a little bare without it.<\/p>\n

Here you can see an overhead view of the table. The centerpiece stands out amid all the quiet blue and white.<\/p>\n

The two-handled soup bowl is one of my favorite styles. The pretty stack of plates invites you to sit down and enjoy a meal. I think soup would taste especially delicious in such a beautiful bowl. We certainly are going to test that theory.<\/p>\n
