Welcome, friends, to the annual Fall Tablescape Blog Hop! I’m so happy you’re here to join me as we celebrate this beautiful autumn season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has been a long, hot summer for most of us, and if you’re anything like me, you’re more than ready for cooler days, crisp evenings, and just a little chill in the air. There’s something so comforting about this time of year\u2014the changing colors, the shorter days, cozy evenings, and the anticipation of gathering with family and friends around the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rita of Panoply has once again brought together a talented group of tablescape artists who are ready to share their ideas and inspiration for bringing the beauty of autumn to your table. I hope you’ll enjoy visiting each of them and discovering all of the creative ways they welcome the season into their homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe first breath of autumn was in the air, a prodigal feeling, a feeling of wanting, taking, and keeping before it is too late.\u201d \u2014 J.L. Carr, \u201cA Month in the Country\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This table setting began with a set of plates that I hadn’t used before. I picked them up while thrifting and, for one reason or another, they had been waiting patiently in the cupboard for their turn at the table. As soon as I began thinking about an autumn tablescape, I knew these were the plates I wanted to use. Their rich reds, greens, and oranges are perfect for celebrating the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fruit designs are slightly abstract, with large, bold shapes that immediately catch your eye. Around the edge of each plate is a beautiful twisted green vine, which adds another layer of interest and gives the plates a lovely garden-inspired quality. They certainly aren’t shy, and I love the way they make such a strong statement on the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plates are by TRACY<\/strong> and are part of the Octavia Hill Collection<\/strong>. Their generous scale and vibrant colors provided the perfect starting point for the rest of the table. When you have a piece that makes such a wonderful statement, it’s fun to let it take center stage and build the rest of the tablescape around it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And, of course, I always enjoy the fact that these beautiful plates came from a thrift store. Finding something wonderful, bringing it home, and then finally discovering the perfect opportunity to use it is one of the little pleasures of thrifting. This autumn, these beauties are finally getting their moment to shine!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAutumn is the mellower season, and what we lose in flowers we more than gain in fruits.\u201d \u2014 Samuel Butler<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I paired the bold dinner plate with a lighter plate by Mikasa to soften the overall look of the place setting. The fruit motif is repeated on this plate, creating a lovely connection between the two patterns, while the softer colors help lighten the plate stack. The edge is decorative as well, but the design is much simpler, which gives the combination a nice sense of balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I love mixing and matching china and crystal rather than using everything from the same pattern or collection. When the colors and shapes work together, different pieces can complement one another beautifully while adding more interest and personality to the table. It also gives you the opportunity to use pieces you already own in new and unexpected combinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For me, that’s part of the fun of setting a table. There really isn’t a rule that says everything has to match. In fact, I think a table is much more interesting when it looks collected over time, with each piece contributing something special to the overall setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe heat of autumn is different from the heat of summer. One ripens apples, the other turns them to cider.\u201d \u2014 Jane Hirshfield, \u201cThe Heat of Autumn\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The colorful china called for a bold and equally colorful tablecloth, but I also wanted a touch of delicacy to keep the overall setting from feeling too heavy. I think this one fit the description perfectly. The background color is rich and vibrant, while colorful flowers and leaves float across the fabric, creating a beautiful backdrop for the place settings. The flowers themselves have a delicate, almost graceful quality, and they seem to move across the cloth as though caught in a gentle autumn breeze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the center of the tablecloth sits a gorgeous pottery vase filled with flowers picked fresh from the garden. I love bringing flowers from the garden to the table, and this arrangement is a wonderful celebration of the season. The bold green hydrangeas are just beginning to show hints of rosy pink along their edges, giving us a little preview of the deeper colors to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hydrangeas are paired with deep red alstroemeria, while eucalyptus and lemon verbena weave throughout the arrangement, adding movement, texture, and wonderful fragrance. Together, the flowers create a lush and abundant centerpiece that feels both relaxed and generous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I especially love that the arrangement isn’t overly formal. It has the look of flowers gathered from the garden and brought straight to the table, which is exactly the feeling I wanted. The abundance of blooms and those rich, warming colors seem to whisper that autumn is just around the corner and that soon we’ll be gathering around the table to enjoy all that the new season has to offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAutumn mornings: sunshine and crisp air, birds and calmness, year\u2019s end and day\u2019s beginnings.\u201d \u2014 Terri Guillemets<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Green, textured napkins are tucked neatly into hammered bronze napkin rings, picking up the beautiful greens found in both the dinner plates and the tablecloth. The texture of the napkins adds another layer of interest to the place settings, while the bronze rings bring in a warm metallic note that feels perfectly suited to the autumn season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plates rest on large, braided natural mats in beautiful shades of yellow and gold. I love using natural textures like these on the table because they soften the setting and provide a wonderful contrast to the colorful china. The golden tones also help tie the various elements together and give the table a warm, welcoming glow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those gold tones continue into the choice of flatware. I’m using Yamazaki Cache Gold, which features beautifully detailed, vine-inspired designs with delicate gold accents. The intricate pattern adds a touch of elegance without feeling too formal and fits beautifully with the garden-inspired feel of the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is one of my favorite flatware sets, and, of course, it was another wonderful thrift store find from several years ago. I always smile when I pull it out because it reminds me once again of why I love thrifting. You never know what treasure might be waiting for you\u2014and sometimes those treasures become the pieces you reach for again and again when setting a table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With all of the bold colors, intricate patterns, and detailed flatware on the table, I wanted to give the eye a few quiet places to rest. When a table has several strong elements, I find that adding a few pieces with simple, clean lines can help create balance and keep the overall setting from feeling too busy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the crystal, I chose simple, elegant shapes for both the water and wine glasses. The water glasses are French Country by Mikasa<\/strong>, with a classic design that complements the china without competing with it. They add just the right amount of sparkle while allowing the more colorful pieces to remain the stars of the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wine glasses have a beautiful, graceful stem and a delicate silver rim that catches and reflects the light. I love the way the silver adds a subtle shimmer to the table without introducing another strong color. Together, the two styles of glassware provide a lovely contrast to the richly patterned china and help give the entire tablescape a sense of balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes it’s those simpler pieces that quietly pull everything together. They may not be the first things you notice, but they help all of the other beautiful elements shine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve really been enjoying card making so I added a menu card to each place setting to welcome the season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The opened card shows the evening’s menu and is removable so that the card can be taken home and kept or sent to a friend. It’s a small gift for the pleasure of our guests. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s an overview of the table, showing all of the gorgeous color and lushness that heralds the coming of the autumn season. From this perspective, you can really see how the colors are repeated throughout the different elements, creating a cohesive and inviting table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rich reds, deep greens, and warm golds appear again and again in the china, tablecloth, napkins, flowers, and accessories. I love the way these colors echo one another without everything needing to match perfectly. Each element contributes something different, but together they create a harmonious feeling that is unmistakably autumn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The abundance of flowers and the richness of the colors give the table a sense of warmth and generosity. It feels like a celebration of the season ahead\u2014a promise of cooler days, cozy evenings, and wonderful gatherings around the table with family and friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For me, that’s one of the great pleasures of setting a seasonal table. It doesn’t have to announce the season loudly. Sometimes the colors, textures, and natural elements simply suggest what is coming, inviting us to slow down and enjoy the beauty of this wonderful time of year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The table is set against a backdrop of photographs from some of our holidays to Italy and Ireland. I love having these travel memories surrounding the table, and their beautiful colors become part of the setting as well. The warm tones in the photographs complement the reds, greens, and golds of the tablescape and add another layer of personality and interest to the room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s something especially nice about gathering around a table surrounded by reminders of places we’ve visited and memories we’ve made. It makes the setting feel personal and lived-in rather than simply decorated for the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
