Welcome to the blog today, friends \u2014 and a warm, sunny WELCOME to spring!<\/strong> \ud83c\udf38<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Isn\u2019t this just the most magical time of year? The garden is stirring from its winter slumber, with tiny green shoots peeking through the soil, stretching toward the warmth of the sun. The air is alive with the flutter of wings as birds busily build their nests, and the trees are bursting into bloom \u2014 even if that means a little dusting of pollen on everything!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The picture above is from my morning room window, where I have the best seat in the house to watch nature’s springtime performance. See that sweet little house finch perched at the top of the branch? He\u2019s basking in the morning sunlight, his rosy feathers practically glowing against the soft pink blossoms of the ornamental tree. It\u2019s like nature\u2019s own perfect color palette \u2014 and the best part is, it\u2019s happening right outside my window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spring is here, friends \u2014 and there\u2019s so much beauty to savor! \ud83c\udf37<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tulip magnolia tree in the front of the house is one of the earliest and most joyful heralds of spring here in the Upstate.<\/strong> \ud83c\udf38<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s something magical about watching its transformation \u2014 from tightly wrapped buds to the glorious unfurling of those large, soft pink blossoms. Each stage feels like a promise of warmer days to come. The color is so vibrant and cheerful, it\u2019s as if the tree is standing proudly, declaring to the world, \u201cSpring has arrived!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a sight that never fails to make me smile \u2014 nature\u2019s own grand opening for the season. \ud83c\udf37<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Purple phlox is truly one of spring\u2019s sweetest gifts, spilling over the rocks and filling the garden with a cascade of delicate blooms.<\/strong> \ud83d\udc9c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It seems to weave itself effortlessly through the rock garden and herb garden, creating soft, dreamy borders of lavender hues that frame the front of the house so beautifully. Phlox is always one of the first flowers to make its appearance, and every time I see those cheerful blossoms, I know that warmer days \u2014 and the promise of peonies \u2014 aren\u2019t far behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s like nature\u2019s way of giving a little wink, saying, \u201cHang tight \u2014 the best is yet to come!\u201d<\/em> \ud83c\udf38<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lilacs are budding, and soon those elegant spikes of soft purple blooms will fill the air with their sweet, fresh fragrance.<\/strong> \ud83d\udc9c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lilacs can be a bit finicky here \u2014 it\u2019s really a touch too hot and humid for them \u2014 so I\u2019ve learned to baby mine a little. But despite the odds, it\u2019s growing well (if a bit slowly), and every delicate floret carries whispers of childhood memories. The scent alone transports me back to simpler days, when lilac-filled breezes signaled that spring was in full bloom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s amazing how a single bloom can hold so much history and heart. \ud83c\udf38<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I remember reading this book when I was quite young \u2014 it left such an impression on me. Over the years, I\u2019ve shared it with so many students in my classes, and it\u2019s heartwarming to think of how those simple, comforting images resonated with them too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, whenever I see blueberries, I can\u2019t help but think of that joy. My blueberry bushes are covered in delicate blossoms, promising a healthy crop this year. I\u2019m already dreaming of lazy summer mornings on the back screened porch, savoring a bowl of freshly picked blueberries \u2014 maybe even with a slice of cake on the side. \ud83c\udf70\ud83d\udc99<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When that magical shift happens, the bush will be covered in fluffy floral snowballs, catching the sunlight and casting a soft, radiant glow across the garden. It\u2019s like nature\u2019s version of a snow globe \u2014 delicate and fleeting, but so breathtaking while it lasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s something so enchanting about watching those bright clusters sway in the breeze, each one a little promise that the full glory of spring is here. \u2744\ufe0f\ud83c\udf38<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They\u2019re among the very first green shoots to peek through the soil in early spring, a cheerful sign that the garden is waking up. If the weather is mild, they might even persist through winter, stubbornly holding their ground. That bright onion-garlic flavor adds just the right touch to so many dishes \u2014 simple, yet so satisfying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plants know how to live in the moment, soaking up the rain and sunshine, focusing on the growth that\u2019s happening right now<\/em>. Last year\u2019s sage isn\u2019t important \u2014 it\u2019s this year\u2019s tender new leaves and roots that matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My sage plants seem to know the value of rest. They gather within themselves through the winter, conserving energy, only to burst forth with fresh growth in the spring. The rest seems to do them good. Maybe we could learn from that rhythm \u2014 the balance of stillness and renewal, the grace of beginning again. \ud83c\udf3f\u2728<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tarragon grows so effortlessly, it\u2019s almost like it wants to be part of your kitchen. Good soil, proper drainage, a bit of sunshine, and some water \u2014 that\u2019s all it needs to thrive. And when you add a splash of wine to your recipe alongside that fresh tarragon, you\u2019ve got a dish that could rival the best restaurants in Provence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s something so rewarding about tending to your herbs, gathering a fragrant handful, and weaving that garden-fresh flavor into your cooking. It\u2019s more than just seasoning \u2014 it\u2019s a little taste of the joy that comes from nurturing something and watching it flourish. \ud83c\udf43\u2728<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before long, I\u2019ll be picking little sun-ripened tomatoes, still warm from the vine, and tossing them into crisp salads. There\u2019s nothing quite like that burst of fresh tomato flavor \u2014 a true taste of summer, arriving just a little early. \ud83c\udf31\u2600\ufe0f<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s a glorious place to be, where the garden, having rested through winter, begins to awaken\u2014each herb renewing itself as if stretching out from a cozy slumber, eager to greet the sun once more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spring brings with it a delightful parade of nature’s little helpers, each playing their part in the garden’s lively rhythm. The garden, full of life and bustle, is like a busy stage where every creature has a role, and I can’t help but smile at the charming clean-up crew hard at work, making sure the birds’ leftovers don’t go to waste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
