It’s August, it’s hot and humid and a Summer table setting is definitely in order. Welcome, Friends, to the Blog today for this blue and yellow Summer offering. This combination of cool blue and bright yellow works for me. Its bright but not loud and “in your face”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I started with this really pretty, yellow, embroidered placemat edged in white fabric. The yellow is very “mellow” as it has a lot of white to tone it down. The placemats are from Pottery Barn but were found when thrifting last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next came the charger selection and I went through quite a few before settling on this lovely tin charger. It certainly has a metallic sheen but not so bright as silver and is a bit more casual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The soup bowl and matching plate are one of my very favorites. The bowl is double-handled which is a great look for the table. These are hand-made Danish pottery by Lars Cyborg and date to the 1940’s and 1950’s. This pottery is not easy to find and I was lucky to run across it in a Thrift Store for very little money. Cheerful and bright they make a great addition to any table. Next is the salad\/dessert plate and the dinner plate both by Villeroy and Boch. The pattern is “Riviera” and it has a lovely floral display that encircles the rim of the plates. It is light and cool with lots of white to help the florals shine. Finally, the tin charger which also shows some lighter aspects to the overall design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Napkins were tucked into the water glasses adding more blues to the table. The wine glass and water glass have the same shape and really pick-up the other blues in the table setting. I kept the napkins simple but you can see they are a subtle white and blue pattern which blends well with the rest of the setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The silver plate is a simple floral pattern called, “Lovely Lady”, by International Silver. The design is not over-powering and goes well with the placemats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A simple wreath with some rusty star accents combined with a nosegay of bright yellow marigolds with a bit of pineapple sage for greenery becomes the centerpiece. It is casual and low so guests can converse without any trouble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s the overhead view of the table. It’s quite colorful while still giving you a feeling of calm. You can see how the yellow flowers in the soup bowls are picked-up by the yellow in the placemats and the centerpiece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This pottery has a different flower display on each of the soup bowls. How cool is that? The florals are quite pretty but in a relaxed, informal display. I think the zigzag pattern helps keep it casual and country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
