A New Look

Welcome to the Blog today, Friends, I’m so delighted that you are here. We held a yard sale a couple of weeks ago and from the proceeds I was able to purchase a new sofa for the study. I am so excited to share this with you today. The picture above shows the new sofa and how I used some thrifted items to make the room homey as it reflects this beautiful autumn season. I’d love to spend a few minutes together and I’ll show you how I achieved a welcoming feel for this room.

Here’s the bare bones of the room with the new sofa. You can see that the sofa is stream-lined and fits the confines of the space. I’m shopping for a new table now to change from the redder cherry color to something with some golden undertones to better blend with the sofa. However, until then I will blend things so that the red is not the dominant color.
I started with the large straw tray on the table but it seemed a little lonely so I added a runner with some seasonal color to soften the look a bit..

The runner has a bit more gold and dark brown in the coloring and picks up the sofa color and the colors in the paintings on the walls around the sofa. The large flowers in the runner reflect the large blooms in the newly thrifted pillow I added to the sofa.

I placed the runner on the table and then added the straw tray. Next to the tray in a dark metal you can see a newly thrifted item. I fell in love with this when I saw it. It’s a stylized moose that is nice and solid and chunky and makes a statement in it’s dark chocolate metal. He’s really a wonderful addition to this room.

I found this beautiful, embroidered pillow in yellows and deep golds with browns and greens that provide a burst of color while tying the colors in the carpet and the sofa to the paintings on the walls. You can see the beautiful leather of the sofa and its sleek lines. I love how the deep yellows add such a happy note to the scene. It makes me smile. I wanted to add some more of that happy color.

The flowers are the same colors that are picked up in the flower pillow with some additional brightly colored leaves representing the changing seasons. The clear vase sits on several books raising it above the bottom of the tray and making it a more prominent piece in the room. Next to the flowers is a sweet little jug that I found today. It’s really quite lovely and brings more of that chocolate brown into the room.

Here you can see how all the colors pull together to create a warm and inviting room.

When we step back a bit and look at the whole space you can see how it creates an inviting look for this room. I hope friends and family will be comfortable in this bright and cheerful room.

This was the old sofa in this space. I’m really happy with the changes that we made in this room.

Thanks so much for joining me as we took a look at this new space together. I hope you like the new look as much as I do. It’s been great sharing it with you today.

Looks great Lynne. The new couch fits perfectly and the whole space has a cozy feel.
Thanks, MaryJo. You never know for sure until you get it in the space. It was the first time I bought a larger furniture item online. Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely week.

Thanks, MaryJo, It was so nice to have a sofa I didn’t have to cover with a quilt. LOL. Have a great week.

Wow! It looks so much more cozy now. It’s amazing what throw pillows and fresh flowers can do. Visiting from Farmhouse Friday
So true, Amy. You can really warm up a space with a little color and some floral accents. Thanks for visiting and have a wonderful week.

Thanks, Amy, I was really pleased with the results and I think it will be pretty easy to make seasonal changes in this setting. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week.

I love the warm tones of the table, although it is quite big. And the rich golds have gotten a short shrift the last few yeasr, and I venture to say warmer tones will be appearing more in the future. We can’t live in concrete and sterile environments forever. Great room, love your flowers, too. Sandi
Thanks, Sandi, I like color in a room. A warmer look in the Fall and Winter is also very appealing. Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely week.
Lynne
Thanks Sandy, the table is quite large and I’ve been looking for a new one. Hopefully something will turn up in the next few months. I love those rich colors too. thanks for visiting and have a lovely week.

What a beautiful sofa! I think you’ve done a really nice job at camouflaging the redness of the coffee table. Perhaps, your talented husband could paint it and do a faux distress on it, or could it be stained to a different color? It has such classic lines, and it looks like a wonderful storage place. Love the way you always incorporate fresh flowers, Lynne!

Thanks, Marsha, I really like the look of the room now with the sofa a bit more stream-lined. Cleaner lines make the space look larger. We’re talking about the table and possible options. I would really like to scale it back a bit but we’ll see how it goes. Thanks for visiting and have a wonderful week.

Thanks, Marsha, it was my first time ordering something that big online but it worked really well. everything arrived undamaged and exactly as described. Still working on the table concept. Thanks for visiting and have a a lovely week.

I love all your artwork…and lovely post. It just is the little touches that make a room, a home. Sandi
Thanks, Sandi, it was fun being able to style this room with a new piece of furniture. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week.

Quite a different vibe, Lynne. I like it alot. We’ve always had leather sofas. So easy to accessorize. For my new library, however, I chose a nubby offwhite stain resistant fabric. It is the first ‘fabric’ sofa in 30 years! I needed softness & texture to balance against the wood floors & built-in bookcases. A leather sofa would have made the room look too ‘mens clubby’ish or too ‘formal library’ish’ if you know what I mean
Thanks, Robin. Moving into a new space you get the chance to re-invent your decor. Sounds lovely…a place to relax and renew. thanks for sharing.
