Garden Photography

“There are always flowers for those who want to see them.”– Henri Matisse

Hello, everyone! It’s been such a joy spending these past few days in the garden, surrounded by nature’s beauty. Alongside my husband, I’ve also been immersed in teaching our iPhone photography course, exploring simple yet effective techniques that anyone can master with just a press of a button. One photo that truly captivated me was taken in Portrait mode with Studio lighting, showcasing a stunning Iris against a backdrop of velvety black, softly illuminated by the gentle touch of sunlight. It’s moments like these that remind me of the magic we can create, both in the garden and through the lens of a camera.

“Flowers are a proud assertion that a ray of beauty out values all the utilities in the world.”– Ralph Waldo Emerson

Stepping into another corner of my garden, I’m greeted by the delightful sight of the Rhododendron I planted last year, now bursting into bloom. Its stunning pink flowers, adorned with delicate pink stamens, are a true testament to the magic of gardening. As I admire this natural spectacle, I’m reminded once again of the profound joy that comes from nurturing plants. They give back so much more than we could ever imagine, filling our lives with beauty and wonder.

“The very best relationship has a gardener and a flower. The gardener nurtures and the flower blooms.”– Carole Radziwill

Here is a Rhododendron with a special effect in portrait mode. I’m really enjoying the various techniques that make each photograph special.

“Flowers always make people better, happier and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul.” – Luther Burbank

Peonies are such lovely flowers, and it’s interesting how they interact with ants as they bloom. The ants are attracted to the peony buds because they secrete a sugary substance that the ants feed on. In return, the ants help to keep the bud clean by removing pests that could potentially harm the flower as it opens. It’s a fascinating example of a mutually beneficial relationship in nature!

“If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly our whole life would change.”– Buddha

This close-up reveals the beauty of my dwarf snowball (viburnum) as it basks in the sun’s gentle glow. I’m endlessly mesmerized by the dance of light and color that unfolds throughout the day, painting my garden with ever-changing hues. Each morning brings a new awareness, with the sunlight weaving its magic through the blooms, while in the late afternoon, a softer light casts a glow over everything. These moments inspire me to wander through my garden, experiencing its beauty in different lights and marveling at how each plant is transformed by the changing day.”

“Flowers are like friends; they bring color to your world.”– Unknown

Nestled in a quiet corner of my garden is a delightful surprise—a beautiful purple clematis plant. Its blooms are like nature’s own saucers, boasting lovely golden centers that add a touch of warmth and elegance. The play of light and dark tones across the petals is simply lovely, creating a captivating dance of colors that never fails to enchant. These flowers are the true gems of my garden, blooming for several weeks and adding a stunning, vibrant touch to the landscape. Each time I see them, I’m reminded of the beauty and joy that nature brings into our lives.

“Open the bloom of your heart and become a gift of beauty to the world.”– Bryant McGill
