Three Vignettes from Thrift Store Finds

“What is Christmas? It is tenderness for the past, courage for the present, hope for the future.” – Agnes M. Pahro
Welcome, Friends, to the Blog today. I’m excited you’re here today to share with me these three vignettes put together from Estate/Thrift Store finds from this past week. I love incorporating found items in my decor. Simplicity is often a key component to using found objects successfully and this vignette couldn’t be simpler.
I took the box and added water and flower food to the bottles. then I made a quick excursion into the garden and added some natural foliage from the garden to the bottles. Just a few sprigs of cedar and some Nandina berries add a touch of holiday color to the bottles…simple and pretty and ready in just a few minutes.

“Christmas is a season for kindling the fire for hospitality in the hall, the genial flame of charity in the heart.” – Washington Irving
Here you can see the simple arrangement against the backdrop of the sofa and Christmas pillows in red, white and green.

“Freshly cut Christmas trees smelling of stars and snow and pine resin—inhale deeply and fill your soul with wintry night.” John Geddes
Here’s a side view of the simple table setting with organic candlesticks in silver and some scented candles in soft green.

“A cup of hot tea is like a hug from the inside out.”
Tea is especially nice during the holidays…a welcome break in a busy day…a moment by the tree enjoying the quiet and beauty of the season. On the tray above you can see the plates I found at the estate sale this past week. The dove is a beautiful addition to the pattern. I already had the teapot and cups and saucers along with additional bread and butter plates and dinner plates. This pattern is really festive and a favorite of mine from Fitz & Floyd.

“When we recall Christmas past, we usually find that the simplest things, not the great occasions, give off the greatest glow of happiness.” — Bob Hope
An arrangement of roses and carnations frames the tea tray. Evergreen foliage from the garden is added to the flowers for a little bit of Christmas. The flower arrangement brings out the colors in the Fitz & Floyd china. In the background you can see some of the bookcase vignettes and a bit of the tree. A pleasant place to sit on a cold afternoon.

“When we remember a special Christmas, it is not the presents that made it special, but the laughter, the feeling of love, and the togetherness of friends and family that made that Christmas special.” — Catherine Pulsifer
I love how the colors of the rug, china, tree and shelves work together to create a cozy feeling in this room. Tea is lovely anywhere but especially nice in a cozy room.

The third vignette uses the lovely little tin tray I found during the same shop. I set this on my kitchen counter. The tray started out with a candle holder. I added a small Christmas wreath and then a pine cone candle to the holder. The bottom of the candle holder is wrapped in red and green ribbon for a festive air.

I’ve been collecting bottles to store some of my herbs and give them a bit of personality. The small rectangular bottle is filled with culinary lavender. I use lavender in quite a few recipes as it adds a bit of sweetness to a recipe. The round bottle is filled with dried mint from the garden. Always a good thing to have on hand. The tall bottle holds jasmine flowers…another interesting ingredient to baking as well as some stews.

I added some very sweet Christmas ribbon to the neck of each bottle to celebrate the holiday season. I love how the soft grays and greens of the herbs blend with the wreath and the tin tray.

It was quite fun figuring out how to incorporate these Estate sale and Thrift Store finds into my holiday decor. Thanks for visiting. I wish you a very Happy Holiday and a wonderful week ahead.

Very pretty settings.
They set the mood nicely!

Love the tea time setting and the coffee table in your library is festively coordinated! I just might copy the candleholder/pinecone/wreath design. That was ingenious!
Thanks, Robin, it was fun to put together. Have a lovely holiday and a great week.
