A Quiet Cup of Tea

The harder it snows, the merrier tea shall be on a cold Christmas day.
Welcome to the Blog today, Friends. It’s Sunday and the first of those in December. I love Christmas but sometimes it can be overwhelming. My husband is napping and recovering from surgery. The decorations are unpacked and ready to go on the tree.. Some seem to be in a box that is still in storage so for this year we will use what is already uncrated. The wash is folded, the ironing almost finished, dishes are washed and I am waiting for our daughter to arrive to help decorate the tree. Dad will be supervising this year. I thought, “I have an hour on my own, lots to do.” Then I thought about a lovely cup of tea and decided to have that instead.
Sometimes you just need a respite and having a hot cup of tea in a beautiful teapot and a beautiful cup can soothe the soul.

So I brought out one of my Christmas tea services. This one is by Noritake and has beautiful ornaments in gold leaf that encircle the cup, saucer, teapot and cream and sugar. I set it out on a silver tray and placed it on a Battenberg lace topper with a lovely arrangement of greens and poinsettia and sat down for a little quiet solitude. Looking out the window into the windswept garden makes me happy to be warm and cozy inside. I pour myself another cup and reflect on the many blessings that have come my way.

Sometimes life’s challenges seem overwhelming. A quiet moment of reflection can help us see the way forward. I wish for all of you a Christmas season filled with family, friends, fun and a few quiet moments to reflect on all the beautiful things in your life. Happy first Sunday in December.

I hope your husband recovers quickly and well from his surgery. We had a holiday season like that one year, but I was able to get things up from the basement we had at the time. Now, we have a crawl space, and I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to handle it. But, my guess is you will still have quite a lovely tree! I hope your moment of respite with this beautiful tea service gave you peace.
Have a wonderful week, Lynne!

Thanks so much, Marsha. I really enjoyed my few moments of quiet and then my daughter arrived and joined me for a cup. A lovely time. My husband is doing really well and I am starting to calm down. The tree is decorated, the house is ready and I think we can begin to enjoy the season. Wishing you and yours a very lovely holiday season.

This is so true Lynne! I love a quiet cup of tea, especially when it’s cold outside and cozy inside! I hope your husband is comfortable and recovering well, and that you and your daughter had a lovely time decorating! Happy Holidays to all of you. Thanks for sharing your beautiful tea moment with us!
Thanks, Barbara, things are definitely improving. My husband is doing really well and we are all taking a much needed breath and relaxing into this wonderful season of love and joy. Wishing you and your family a joyous holiday season.

A time to pause and reflect is good! I love my morning coffee, but I am gradually changing over to a cup of tea in the afternoon. Your tea set is lovely! Have a blessed Christmas. SSPS #53
Thanks so much, Carol. I wish everyone could take the time for a quiet cup in the afternoon. It’s a great way to destress in this busy season. Christmas blessings on you and your family. Have a wonderful week.

Love the festive look of this china pattern. A festive & reflective moment. While I don’t own this pattern I was able to thrift 6 butterpats in this pattern!
This is one of my favorites, Robin. My daughter gifted a lot of the pieces to me which makes it extra special. I’m always looking to add to the pattern. Lucky find for you. Thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful week.

I inherited one or two pieces of Noritake from my mother-in-law–I think it is the same pattern. I love the gold! I have picked up an occasional piece of it, but don’t know if I have ever used them. My coffee and occasional tea is usually hurriedly sipped from a mug. Your way is so much more relaxing. Prayers for your husband’s quick recovery and a lovely Holiday season for you and family.
Thanks, Kathy, my husband is doing great. We are very grateful. Hope you take time for a “relaxing” beverage break. Wishing you and yours a lovely holiday season.
