Adding Fall to the Den

Welcome to the blog today. I’m so glad you are visiting. Apologies for being late in posting this. I spent hours in the yard yesterday and then had a major allergy attack so I am a bit behind this morning. However, I’m really looking forward to sharing this Den update with you. The Den is a restful place to come and read a book or relax with a cup of tea and I change it over seasonally. You’ll see how a few subtractions and additions can make the room feel totally different.

This shows you the basics of the room for Summer. I removed some of the items that were on the coffee table so you could see it pretty stripped down.

To make the changeover I started with this red and white runner that has a relaxed, casual feel. Red is a staple color for Fall. It also has some interesting textures within the runner.

Next I had to decide what items would enhance the table. I settled on a thrifted wooden tray with black metal handles and added some thrifted fabric pumpkins in a paisley pattern. Cute little red ribbons are tied around the wooden stems.

A seasonal bunch of beautiful flowers came next. Fall is one time of the year when you can add lots of color to your setting. These lovely blooms add texture and some delightful hues to the room.

The woolen rug in this room adds a lot of color and pattern. I thought it might be too much but I persevered and suspended judgment until the whole room came together. I kept the Chakra Bowl because I use it and because it adds a calming white presence to the table.

The sofa needed some attention and I chose this wonderful quilt with multiple colors suitable for Fall. The browns and tans support red blooms on a white background.

I added simple red and white pillows on one end of the sofa and…

…a recently thrifted Pottery Barn throw on the other end.

This is how it looks with all the elements in place.

Everything seems to be balanced and even though there is a lot of patterning it seems to work together.

Here you can see more of the rug and the large wooden furniture along one side of the room. The wood picks up on the darker tones in the quilt and the pictures on the wall.

What do you think? A few changes and the character of the room is very different. From Summer to Fall in just a few minutes. Thanks for visiting today and have a great week.
