Peaches…A Little Bit of “Southern”

“Family life is a bit like a runny peach pie – not perfect but who’s complaining?” — Robert Breault

Stretched out under a tree, the wind moving softly through the leaves, sounds of crickets chirping in the garden and a ripe peach held in hand waiting…waiting for that first, wonderful, juicy bite to bring Summer close. Another perfect Summer moment suspended forever in my memory.

Peaches are delicious, delectable, juicy, sweet…and the list of descriptive adjectives goes on and on. They are a perfect gift of Summer.

“One does a whole painting for one peach, and people think just the oppositethat particular peach is but a detail.” — Pablo Picasso

Pair the peaches with a lovely bouquet of hydrangea and you have a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. The yellows, oranges, and rose colors blend beautifully in a peach. Lucious and vibrant these peaches take center stage in their shallow white bowl. A single zinnia brings attention to the sentiment written in beautiful script on a pristine white towel. Summer is flowers and peaches in this South Carolina home.

“Memories, even hard memories, grew soft like peaches as they grow older.” — Sarah Addison Allen

More peaches wait on the prep island. The kitchen is ready to embrace the beauty of the peach. So many recipes, so many ways to prepare a peach…the best is simply to eat a ripe peach from your hand.

“Sunrise paints the sky with pinks and the sunset with peaches. Cool to warm. So is the progression from childhood to old age.” — Vera Nazarian

Simple pleasures are all around us just waiting for us to notice. A bowl of peaches, a bouquet of flowers and a home filled with love…what more could anyone ask for? Take a moment and count the simple blessings of your life and…eat a peach!
