Recent Thrift Store Finds

It was a bonanza of cross stitch at the Thrift Store this week. Finding needlework pieces is always a pleasure for me. I think about all the hours invested by someone to make a beautiful piece to be displayed in their home. Then, perhaps years later, it ends up in a Thrift Store where I can find it and bring it home for a new life. All those hours spent making something beautiful and it’s still being appreciated.

The simplest piece I found is pictured above. It is also the largest and is beautifully framed with double matting. The frame is still in excellent condition and the sentiment… one I can certainly support. It was made in 1984 but looks like it was finished yesterday. This was the most expensive piece and was about $4.50.

I loved this piece displaying many different types of hearts. You can see a little house in a yard of sheep, a fat, yellow cat and a Summer watermelon amongst others. This will be great for Valentine’s Day or any other day of the year. The frame is a simple country style and is in excellent condition. I paid $1.50 for this one.

I think this one may have been made from a kit that included the frame. It looks like it might represent the fall season with the large pumpkin. I love the detail in this and it is nicely completed.

The next one might be part of the same series and represent Summer. I have a soft spot for sheep.

This one could be Spring with pots for planting and seed packages depicted. I love that the cross stitch is framed in circular frames. They are all in excellent condition. These were about $2.40 a piece.

I included two additional pieces from previous Thrift Store finds that had the same feel. The one on the left is a calendar with beautiful pictures that represent each month. On the right you have a collection of things that make you smile. These are nicely framed and in great shape. I put them together on the gallery wall to make a collection that goes with the cutting boards and rolling pins on display. Each of these pieces was less than $2.

I think it has a homespun feel. What do you think?

I picked up one last piece on this outing. A cotton striped blanket. It was a bit dirty but washed up beautifully. I am using it to cover my den sofa. It was less than $4.

I think it lightens up the room for a brighter look for Summer. I still haven’t changed out the coffee table but now I have some incentive to add some different decor.
