Thrifting in July
I keep saying that thrifting prices have really gone up and that is true. However, you can still find bargains. They don’t seem to be restricted to a particular type of item. It’s more about being in the right place at the right time. This week’s shop was like that.
In the picture above you can see a beautiful Nordic Ware baking pan in the shape of a Christmas wreath. These pans are really wonderful for baking and the impressions in the pan turn out beautifully.
Here’s the shape you will see when you turn the cake out. It’s a lovely pine and holly wreath with a big bow…perfect for the holidays.
The same day in a different shop I found this Nordic Ware pan. Each section of the pan is a complete house. These will be great for Christmas or Hallowe’en. You can decorate them appropriately for the holiday with icing and a cake piping tool or just dust them with confectioner’s sugar.
I think the one on the right is actually a church so maybe not Hallowe’en. LOL. Can’t wait to experiment with them and see how they turn out. In the right setting these could be a great centerpiece or grace a buffet and be quite fun.
I found this lovely Lenox candle holder with Christmas motifs. It came complete with candle. These make great gifts perhaps accompanied by some home-baked goods.
This great French country runner in blues and yellows was a great find. It’s reversible with a simple blue and white polka dot pattern on the backside. You can see both patterns in the photo above. French country settings are a favorite of mine so I snap up appropriate linens when I see them.
The Christmas items were half off because they were in “Christmas in July” sales…so extremely affordable. The runner was $2.
We stopped at The Christmas Tree Shop on our way home. They are, sadly, going out of business but their Fall inventory was 75% off. I bought a few things for under $10 total.
This first item is a harvest table runner in burlap. It has a nice country feel to it and I can see using this for a more casual or an outdoor meal.
This very cute Fall sign caught my eye. The Fall colors will fit in with other pieces in my Fall collection.
This second sign was nice and simple.
I also bought some great ribbon. Maybe I’ll use this on a wreath or door decoration.
Finally, I found two boxes of moss-covered eggs for Easter. These were also 75% off.
All-in-all this was a great day of thrift and discount shopping.
Great finds!! those Nordic ware pans are such a score! Thrifting prices have gone up here too…almost astronomically and overnight. I can find one store near my house that still has very good prices so I go there more often now 🙂 Happy weekend!
I feel your pain. Maybe things will come down as I notice the turnover rate is not as quick as it used to be. I love using the Nordic pans especially for holidays. These were a great buy. Thanks for stopping by and sharing.

Oooooh, love all of your items (mostly the linen, of course)! How about a haunted church, lol? Smaller cake pans or molds are now more appropriate for us – individual servings & smaller portions & easier to freeze. For those reasons I’m purging many of my larger baking & bundt pans. I’m sad that the Christmas Tree Shops are closing. The one nearest to me is not that convenient & I rarely think about going there but I will need to make one last trip. Thanks for the reminder.
Thanks, Robin. Good luck shopping at the Christmas Tree Store. I also tend to make smaller dessert items and individual servings that I can freeze and pull out as needed. We don’t eat huge meals and try to eat healthy but a little dessert once in a while is a nice treat. I’ll have to think about that haunted church. LOL. Have a great week.

Great finds! I love thrifting for Nordic Ware pans! I have abourt 30 and I’ve paid less than 5 dollars for almost all of them. I used to pay only 3.49 at Goodwill for baking pans and now they want 5 or 6, but still a good price for those pans. Love the wreath!

I think that “church” could be decorated as a witch’s house. Those round door windows remind me of birdhouses. I have 1 Nordic Ware pan that I use at Christmas; I just dust the cake with confectioner’s sugar. Making colored conf. sugar is a pain, but is pretty, too! You got some great treasures. Prices in Maine have gone up dramatically, too. Our local GW prices START at $2. Even for dollar store stuff. I just refuse to buy it! And leave comments on their surveys! Even Salvation Army has gone up but not as badly. I am finding prices in “antique” stores and flea markets higher, too. Using my judgment gets tiring!!!
I was out yesterday, Kathy, and found the prices had gone up again. Makes it more difficult to find a bargain. I hadn’t thought about coloring the confectioner’s sugar. Thanks for the tip. I’ll give that a try. Have a great week and thanks for sharing.
