Home Decor and a Thrifted Wine Rack
Welcome to the Blog today. I hope you had a great week and had a chance to enjoy the Summer weather. We’ve been really busy replacing our lower deck in the back of the house, cleaning up the garden after our trip, and making inroads on the remaining projects inside the house.
Today I’m sharing an item I thrifted last week and incorporated into the Morning Room yesterday. You’ll see the full thrift later in the week. In the picture above you can see this really nice wooden wine rack. Actually, my hubby found it and put it in the cart. We only had time to go to one store and found several treasures there. The full wine rack holds 72 bottles of wine. Above you can see that we have four rows for wine for a total of 48 bottles of wine. We have room to grow.
Beside the wine rack are two wine crates…one on either side that support the eight foot cherry board that acts as a shelf. I wanted to create a vignette that incorporated different types of wood and gave a vintage feel. Using cutting boards seemed like a great way to start. You can see in the picture I’ve used cutting boards of various sizes and shapes with a variety of woods. The largest board is about 18 inches wide and three feet long. It’s really large. I found it at the discount Goodwill months ago and, after sanding and waxing, it is beautiful. Another thrift Store find was the next largest board cut in the shape of an apple or a pumpkin. Love how it looks. It’s not an actual cutting board but I have used it for serving food. I don’t place the food directly on the board but it is large enough to support several plates for serving. Then I have two smaller boards in light and dark hardwoods. The rectangular one is a Thrift Store find and the diamond-shaped board is artisan made and a lovely gift from Friends. Below the boards you can see a South Carolina hand-thrown artisan pitcher that was a gift. I love the way these pieces create a vintage look.
Next to the cutting boards and in the center of the shelf I have a collection of vintage and patterned rolling pins. I actually use these when baking so they are not just for show. They fit nicely into a hand-made carrier with a copper handle that my Hubby made. Love how the copper adds to the vintage feel of the box. Below you can see more of the wine rack.
On the opposite side I placed a souvenir from our trip…wood from the Venetian Lagoon and a set of Shaker Boxes I thrifted a year or so ago… In the wine crate below is a thrifted large lantern.
The sign above the shelf sets the tone for the vintage pieces displayed. I love how this came together. The wood colors are warm and the wine bottles pick up colors in the rug. It looks simple and clean with enough patterning to create some interest.
When I am deciding on a display I try to shop my house for things to use that will incorporate the theme and the feel of the vignette. When I’m trying to incorporate a new treasure I use the same approach. Honestly, sometimes it turns into a hunt for something I know I have but can’t quite remember where I last saw it. LOL. Decorating is always an adventure.

Enjoyed seeing your new arrangement. I would love to see how much of an impression the rolling pins make on dough! Does the design kind of disappear as the dough rises? Think it would be great for shortbread!

About a year ago, Julia. Found them in a Thrift Store for very little money. I was really pleased. Love the simplicity of the oval shape. They also hold a lot so pretty practical. Thanks for sharing and have a great week.
