A Simple Vignette

Beauty of style and harmony and grace and good rhythm depend on simplicity.”

– Plato

As I prepared this little vignette I decided to look for the simplicity of a pared down display. Three elements comprise the vignette: flowers, water colors, and a rendition of the scorpio sign in a chippy frame. Welcome, Friends, to a simple vignette.

“You’re the Sign of endings and new beginnings, the one who can rise from the ashes and become even more powerful.”
Joanna Martine Woolfolk, Scorpiol

The first element is this etched interpretation of the Astrological Sign of Scorpio, the Scorpion. I found several of these etched signs in a Thrift Shop several years ago and love how they are so meticulously drawn. The paper is aged and the sign is in brown ink with black writing. I placed it in this chippy frame as it seemed to set it off nicely.

“As an artificial world, the city should be so in the best sense: made by art, shaped for human purposes.”

– Kevin Lynch.

Here you can see the watercolors displayed behind the flowers. They are both of cities. The upper one is an imaginary city and the lower one is Quebec City. We vacationed there some years ago and brought home the watercolor as a reminder of our visit.

“The secret are in the plants. To elicit them you have to love them enough.” George Washington Carver

I didn’t think that red and purple would go together but they did. Pineapple sage and an ornamental sage blend beautifully to create a bouquet filled with energy and calm. They are two sides of the same coin and come straight from the herb garden.

I love the way the way the chippy paint chest of drawers enhances all the colors in the flowers and the paintings. The look is simple allowing for space to breathe in a busy day. Wishing you all a wonderful day and a great week.
