August Thrift Store Adventure

These items are from this week’s thrifting adventures and, although there are not a lot of items, the items are really exciting. I’m so excited to share these finds with you because they are especially relevant for Fall use. Welcome to the Blog today, Friends, as I share some really great finds with you.

First we have this really sweet little wooden sign that says “Happily Ever After”. You could use this in many ways and settings but I’m going to be using it in my Halloween display this year.

Next we have this very nice folk painting depicting an apple orchard and, in fact, it is called “The Apple Orchard”. The artist is Elizabeth F. Gilkey from Ohio. She specialized in primitive paintings that resembled 18th century works. The picture is oil on canvas and is quite charming. It is also in the original frame and is signed on the back by the artist. It was a nice find. It required a little cleaning of the glass and the wood but looks pretty good now.

I really liked these beautiful black, white and grey plates by Stafford, an English china maker. They have a very botanical look to them and they are another item I’ll be using at Halloween and certainly in other settings as well.

These plates are quite wonderful and show a peacock in brown transfer ware. I love these images and can’t wait to use them. These plates and the Stafford plates were found at Goodwill.

Lastly, this wonderful wooden bread board was found at Goodwill. It was a bit of a mess when I bought it but after some sanding and repair and a good oiling with food grade mineral oil it really looks great. This may be used for display or charcuterie or other uses. The board is just a single piece of wood and measures 17″ by 28″ plus the handle. That size board is really expensive these days but this has a sense of age about it that is very appealing.

This is the front side of the board. You can see the two decorative bands of wood that slide into grooves created in the main board. I really love how this looks. My Hubby did a great job sanding this down and bringing out the grain.

I was really pleased with my Thrifting Adventures on this day. Have a great week.
