“The afternoon knows what the morning never suspected.” — Robert Frost

Apologies for posting this so late in the day but I was making cookies. LOL

Sometimes all you want to do on a Sunday afternoon is relax and read a book over a cup of tea and maybe some homemade chocolate chip cookies. I can’t think of a lazier and more renewing way to spend an hour or two.

Above you’ll see some chocolate chip cookies fresh from the oven resting on a beautiful pottery plate.

You can see the design on the pottery plate inviting you to spread out under a tree and just be…with cookies!

“Tea time is a chance to slow down, pull back and appreciate our surroundings.” — Letitia Baldrige

Everything is better with tea. Tea served hot provides you with a respite, time to unwind while the tea cools enough to drink it. It’s like a gently encouraged meditation or just a cleansing breath. Time to restore your well being and not think for just a few moments.

“No matter where you are in the world, you are at home when tea is served.” – Earlene Grey

Setting a tray with beautiful cups and saucers is a pleasant ritual that helps relax on a lazy afternoon. The above cups and saucers are “English Country” by Mikasa. They are my everyday dishes and I love their beautiful patterns. Pretty china adds to the beauty of the moment.

“Flowers don’t tell, they show.” — Stephanie Skeem

Even a sprig of pretty flowers adds a delicious feeling of harmony to your tray.

Luxury lives in the finer details. It’s a cloth napkin at a dinner table.

Life is enjoyed in small moments. The lovely details of these moments nurture us. Take a few moments, fill it with things you love and enjoy the details that make it special…and…eat a chocolate chip cookie. You will thank me later.

  1. The cookies look yummy! I did spend the majority of my day reading a good book; I knew it was going to be a rainy weekend so I hit up the library on Thursday and stocked up.

  2. This has to be one of the loveliest posts I’ve ever read or seen. I love the quotes, the crockery, and the cookies! There is nothing like a day spent baking cookies for your people, knowing they’ll love whatever you’ve made. My son was here yesterday and dropped some not so subtle hints that he would appreciate some snickerdoodles!

  5. Hubby made us chocolate chip cookies, albeit from a refrigerator package, but good nonetheless. 😉 Yes, tea and cookies… It’s time for a nap! 😉 Happy to feature your post at this evening’s Share Your Style for you (#404). Hope all is well out in your neck of the woods, Lynne.

    Hugs,
    Barb 🙂
